Cedar forest monkeys
David Attenborough visits a cedar forest in the Atlas Mountains in Morocco, which is inhabited by Barbary macaques. These monkeys are good climbers, and eat cedar and oak leaves. They also forage on the ground for nuts, roots, millipedes and worms. This species once lived in Europe, and their fossil bones have even been found in Britain. The Gibraltar 'apes' may be descended from European macaques, but their numbers have been boosted by imported Moroccan macaques. Adults groom the dark furred babies. Usually mum cares for the baby, but the males do a bit of baby sitting too. All the adults like babies and so a baby can hitch a lift on any passing adult.
