Tourist trap
The environmental impact of tourism on the loggerhead turtle in the Mediterranean Sea can be large. A turtle swims, while around it are speedboats, windsurfers and other watersports. But it is on the beaches that they are in most trouble. Loggerheads lay their eggs at night, but only a few will brave the noise and lights of tourist resorts. A turtle digs her nest and lays her eggs on a tourist beach in Greece, while nightclub music plays in the background. Signs ask tourists to keep away from the breeding beach, but they have been vandalised and sunbathers are everywhere. The tracks of a turtle in the sand show that it came partly up the beach and then headed back to sea without laying its eggs.
