American street locking - an introduction
Dancer and choreographer Jimmy Williams demonstrates the key movements and stylistic features of this particular form of American street locking, a form of street dance. Specific examples of how to lock, pop and roll are provided together with an explanation of the dynamics needed for body popping. Jimmy Williams demonstrates how improvisation can help develop a motif using the wave. Suggestions are made for building up longer sequences and the use of a mirror in camera shot enables the viewer to see how the phrase could be developed in a pair. We see a short section of an advanced street dance lesson featuring the movement highlighted earlier and hear from two young dancers who explain their passion for this style.
