Vietnam: Hatred in the Name of Liberty

A History of Hate

Available for over a year

In the fourth part of his series on the mechanics of hatred, Allan Little examines how military training led many American soldiers to hate not just the Communist army they were fighting, but the entire Vietnamese population. This hatred would spur many to commit atrocities against civilians. We learn how a country founded on the ideals of the Enlightenment drew on misogyny and racism to drill conscripted soldiers in violent hatred – both in training and as they pushed through the jungles and villages of Vietnam. Archive comes from the film "Winter Soldier", produced by the Winterfilm Collective and distributed by Milliarium Zero and Milestone Films. Presenter: Allan Little Producer: Xavier Zapata Editor: Helen Grady
