French police have shot dead the man who attacked Strasbourg's Christmas market on Tuesday, the interior minister has said. A police unit came across Cherif Chekatt in a Strasbourg street and shot him after he opened fire. The US Senate has defied President Trump by passing a resolution calling for an end to American military support for the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen. It directs the president to remove US forces other than those fighting Islamist extremists. The human rights organsiation Amnesty International is calling for an investigation into UN Peacekeepers in the Central African Republic over a particularly bloody incident in which one-hundred people were killed.
