The
pioneering project to bring young and old together so they can learn
from each other is drew to a close on March 10th 2004 but not before
a special session in which celebrity chef Robert Rees prepared a
celebratory feast.
The
celebrity chef prepared three recipes from the favourite ingredients
of the group. After this, they were asked to sample the recipe and
decide on a suitable name. After much deliberation the favourite
was chosen by Robert - 'Fairford Generation Chicken'.

Uniting
young and old through food
Savour
the Flavour was a scheme which gave older people from the town's
Darby & Joan Club and Beaumore Place sheltered housing scheme
the opportunity to bridge the age gap and break down barriers
by meeting and mixing with members of Fairford Youth Club.
During
the six-month project, which began in September 2003, they discussed
a range of topics including cooking tips, habits and favourite foods,
as well as learning more about local produce, food and cookery through
history.
The
overall aim of the project was to encourage the two generations
who have had little contact with each other before to talk and to
devise a 'Fairford Recipe' to celebrate the area itself.
The
project has proved how intergenerational work within a community
can break down barriers and create a better dialogue between the
generations. The groups have enjoyed the experience so much they've
already decided on future projects they would like to work on together!
It
has also proven the power of partnership working - Gloucestershire
Rural Community Council, Cotswold Museums Service, Central Cotswolds
Young Peoples Project, Robert Rees and sponsorship of the ingredients
by Tesco in Cirencester all contributed to the success of the initiative.
