In
my formative years there were three bands - bar the Beatles of course
- who provided a consistent soundtrack to my teenage years: The
Jam, The Clash and...Dexys Midnight Runners.

This
week I got to interview - for the first time ever, surprisingly
- Kevin Rowland for a one-hour special that'll be going out on the
early evening Saturday show in late September.
It
ties in with the release of a new Best Of: 'Lets Make This Precious'
and a UK tour which pulls into the capital for a show at the Royal
Festival Hall on 10 November. Now how much can I not wait for that?!!
powerhouse
Dexys
were one of those bands that made you feel like a fan. Part of a
private club with a following or membership of like-minded people.

Let's
make this precious: Dexys were a force to be reckoned with
|
Live,
they were always a force to be reckoned with. A powerhouse of energy
and intensity that had you by the scruff of the neck as soon as
they hit the stage.
Over 3 albums the band never stood still, constantly evolving their
music and image with a passion that made them seem so different
to the rest.

new Best Of features two new songs which demonstrate that
Kevin Rowland's pen has never been sharper.
new
perspective
Manhood
and My Life In England - Part One are both wondrous, autobiographical
affairs that I'm sure will sit neatly with the old songs when they
come to perform them on stage.
With Kevin Rowland involved you can guarantee that these shows will
be no wallow in nostalgia.
In
fact he made it clear to me in the interview that the band will
be putting "a new perspective on the whole thing".
Stroll
on November 10th I say. I'm ticking off the calender in anticipation!
