Egg thieves

Nesting on islands helps to protect the bar-headed goose nests from some predators, but ravens will still take eggs if the geese will let them. Most eggs do hatch safely and after one day they join their parents on the shallow, warm lake, feeding on the prolific midges which also hatch at this time of year.
