Brain health: ‘Women do have specific risks’
Psychologist Kimberly Wilson says women’s brain health has been “largely neglected” by everybody in medical conversations.
Kimberly explains why women are more likely to be diagnosed with depression and have nearly twice the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease.
Women’s immunological health and long-term stress are significant factors, but Kimberly says that losing the “protective effect of oestrogen” at menopause means we should be thinking about brain health “earlier and more generally”.
