Being diagnosed with Lichen Sclerosus
Clare has suffered with Lichen Sclerosus since she was a young girl.
Clare Baumhauer has suffered with Lichen Sclerosus since she was a young girl.
Lichen Sclerosus is a long-term skin condition that can affect women and men of all ages, but according to the NHS website, it’s most common in young girls and women over the age of 50.
Lichen Sclerosus can cause vulvar cancer in very rare cases.
Clare now campaigns to raise awareness after finally being diagnosed with Lichen Sclerosus along with vulvar cancer aged 43.
Speaking to 5 Live’s Naga Munchetty, she said: “It’s hard because it’s a condition that affects an area where you’ve got to walk, sit, go to the toilet, have sex, have children. You can’t really forget about it.â€
“It affects your mental health, as well as your physical health.â€
You can find more information about Lichen Sclerosus on the NHS website.
