The photo

This is a picture of a mother and daughter taken at my son's confirmation in May. They are wearing traditional national costumes (bunad) from the Telemark region of Norway. Different regions have their own special costumes, "bunads". The girl's costume is over 50 years old, made of cotton, while the mother's costume is new and made of wool. The costumes are very expensive to buy, about 250 pounds - without the jewellry! We wear the costumes on Norway's National Day (May 17th) and on special occasions like weddings and confirmations.
