This is a photo of a Maiko. A Maiko an apprentice geisha. Maikos are usually aged between 15 and 21. Maiko and Geisha look similar, but are not the same. Maiko wear a long, bright Kimono, with long sleeves, and extravagant hair ornaments. Her training is very expensive and she must repay her debt with the earnings she makes. Geisha study traditional instruments, as well as learning games, traditional songs, calligraphy, Japanese traditional dances, the tea ceremony, literature, and poetry.
