A pipe dream from Adriana, Brazil

I'm alive and my heart is still beating. I've already got that kind of excitement for many times in my life. I have horrible memories when Brazil seemed to have a perfect team and skilful super star players and it was hard to accept a defeat. It's different this time. With those experiences in mind, I try not to have a heart attack every time Brazil plays, wins or loses. I'm sure my son will learn it from me. Well...apart from the result, this World Cup will be unforgetable to my son for many reasons.

In fact, the 'World' Cup term sounds unfair as we have almost only South American and European countries at the competition but it clearly has become more democratic, particularly this one with Asian and African remarkable participation.

I would definitely recommend him not to remember the unacceptable aggressiveness and violence in the field partly due to the constant mistakes made by the referees and also due to the loss of temper. FIFA should be aware of the number of the children watching this bad example of behaviour. No matter the result, we should keep the sense of balance and have a positive attitude towards the situation. In Brazilian case, I reckon Dunga's team has already reached a great achievement and Netherland deserved the victory for its emotional control.

One of the good things of living in a multicultural country is that there is always any country to cheer for. Of course, I was supporting Brazil in first place at this competition but it's disorienting when you have a match between Germany and Argentina for example . Argentina is in our neighbourhood and is a Latin country. On the other hand, we have some German descendants here. In my own state, people celebrate joyfully every time Germany wins.

As for me, I always tend to support novice teams, especially African countries for cultural and historical reasons because I know how important is a great performance for them. Let's see...I hope I don't bring that Micky Jagger kind of bad luck when cheering for any country :-)... Good luck for the remaining countries still at the competition. Go on!!!

Hello dear Adri! I couldn´t agree more with you. I think the Brazilian team did their best but it wasn´t enough to beat Netherlands. Maybe in 2014 the Brazilian team will be able to win at home, but what I´m really hoping for the World Cup here in Brazil is that all the infrastruture which is being promised for the event, can effectivelly bring some quality of life for the Brazilian population.
    Best wishes,
    Ana Paula, Brazil.

    Hi Adriana,

Your thoughts are clear, supporting the team remaining in competition so far and calling for fair play. The football not only is a sport in Brazil, but culture, religion and spirit. The elimination of Brazilian football team at quarter final by Holland hurt you and others loving the team. However, it is clear that the football is a game of 11 players each side, Brazil's team is a collection of many outstanding footballers who are temper and selfish and they deserve to knock out.

I think you forget to say that Argentina's defeat was so celebrated as a Brazil's win.
On Friday, all comments were about Brazil's defeat and a dramatic win for Uruguay against Gana.
But on Saturday, we forgot it, everybody were happy again, all Brazilians laughed a lot of Argentina's defeat and Diego Maradona's face. =)
What is a football rivalry? haha

Yes, you are right. Mick Jagger is not a lucky supporter.
    All the best to you!

    @Silvia
Yes, we are supporting Uruguay too. Specially the Botafogo's fans, since Uruguay's forward "Loco Abreu" plays on this team.

Apart from Argentina, we support all South American's teams.
I will stop my work today just to cheer for Uruguay.
    Let's go Celeste! Go!

    All the best!
