I have astonished about your amazing story as well as your writing skills, the most thing what I have liked in your topic that you create your own English community, with less possible cost. and of course the most problem facing the English learners is how to use English in their community because they cannot effort traveling to UK or USA.
Actually, I want to share with you my method to improve my speaking and listening as well. Every day try to listen to a podcast for a certain time by your IPod and try to repeat the topic every day until you feel you can predict the rest of
the topic(Memorize by listening repetition method)

Hi Andry! Thank you for your suggestion, but it's very difficult for me, because my daughter is only one year old, and if I spoke in english to my wife, we would burst into laughter in a while, because not to speak italian between us would sound weird. It doesn't happen the same with strangers. This is an interesting matter, too often it's just uneasiness, or shyness, but we never speak as much as we can in a lot of situations. to myself, for example, is very difficult to place a phone call in english at work if someone else could hear me. sometimes i wait the moment i'm alone in the office!

Hi Abdallah, yes, i'm pretty proud of my experiments with the free dinner in milan. and there is also a big news! nitin, the indian guy in the picture, wrote me today that he is getting married, and he invited us to his wedding! we don't know if we could manage to go to india in december, because it costs a lot of money, but we really fancy a big indian party and hugging again our friend and his bride!

Sorry Abdallah, i sent my comment before answering you about your method, that I think could be really effective if you have good willingness. I will try it before going to bed, when the house is silent and no one could draw my attention on other things. I'll start with a very short podcast, because otherwise instead of learning english i could fall asleep!

Thank you very much for the handy tips on how to improve our English. These tips are not completely free but they might prove to be extremely useful. This type of ways of learning is actually fruitful since it allows you to learn while having fun.

I think it is a good thing and even a must to diversify one鈥檚 sources of learning. Mixing the traditional methods with the new ways of learning may make it easier to learn English. Reading, listening, speaking, writing,.. are useful. They should be mixed with more relaxed and joyful means of edutainment. All means must be used. Practice makes perfect, as the saying goes. Another thing can be added:to master a language one should permanently be exposed to it.

I personally relied partly on 蜜芽传媒 Learning Enlish to improve my language skills. I realy learned a great deal from this invaluable source of knowledge. I can even say that I have become addicted to 蜜芽传媒 Learning English. Hello Beatriz! yes, I do believe that i鈥檝e been very lucky to have the opportunity to attend an english course in london during the olympic games. Only, I used my holiday time to do it, and I had to leave my wife and my daughter for two weeks. Nevertheless, I鈥檓 very happy of this choice, I learned some more English, which I needed for my job, I met a lot of new friends, and it also was experiential. I鈥檓 going to talk about that in the next posts.

Dear Pary, consider yourself invited to my home if you happen to come to Milan! We also really crave for travelling to iran, I don鈥檛 think we will come next year, but for sure in few years we will come and visit your country, it鈥檚 on top of our wished destinations, with Lebanon, eastern Turkey and few other countries.

I had the pleasure of teaching Omar at the Victoria School of English in London. Omar was a great pupil. He was intelligent, motivated to learn and had a great sense of humour (and an unforgettable laugh!).

I might have to invite myself to Milan to experience his cooking. There will be 3 classes each day. A breakfast, lunch and dinner class. Omar will be full of English and I will be full of food. A perfect relationship!

I am impressed by everyone's writing ability on this forum - keep it going!

I would also like to share one with you. When I go to bed, I always put my earphones on and listen to my English Audiobooks or something similar in English. At that moment you often pay more attention to the listening because the remaining senses aren't in use.

Hi Omar Thank you for your replay . I 'm so delighted to know you are keen on travel to Iran . Hope it will happen really soon . Which areas of Iran you are interested to visit ? I think you might be interested to visit historical places and cities like Esphehan and Shiraz . Mind you I live in west north of Iran in Ardebil city . It 's near to Tabriz city which is a tourist trap too . Like you I 'm so keen on traveling abroad but now a days it 's too expensive . I have just visited Turkey Istanbul last year . Then I tried my best to use my English ... In my case it was a fail ....as they didn't know much English and Unlucky we didn't know much Istanbul turkey .... Any way now they are all sweet memory :)

Hi Pary, i'd like to go to Esphehan and Shiraz, and also Qom seems interesting to me, but of course when we'll decide to visit Iran, i have to read a lot more about the country, so the list will become much longer! I don't Know Tabriz but i'll check about it!
we've been in Istanbul three years ago, a wonderful holyday, and a wonderful country, we really want to come back to see the part of turkey we didn't visit the first time! and yes, it's expensive to go abroad, but it's one of the few things i think really worth it's salt.

I was lucky like you for being at in the UK last week. I visited UK for a vacation and to meet my brothers staying in London. The weather was lovely and it gave us an opportunity to enjoy the english summers in UK. The tip which i would like to share is that i used to listen very carefully to the conversation of the native speakers. At the same time i used to observe and learn words used at the airport etc. I also bought some english novels written by Ruth hamilton and georgetter hyer as they very expressive writers and i am sure their writing style can definitely help me to be more expressive in sharing my ideas.

Paula, can you share the links to audio books which you mentioned, as i believe they can influence my communication and articulation skills.

Thank you Omar for this great idea and for the opportunity you give us to share our experiences on methodology used for learning and improving english.
I enjoyed alot reading your experimentations (some of them were funny and dare, but very interesting). Thank you also for sharing your family pictures. I love your wedding pic :)
Personally I use combined ways to improve my english, it depend of my humour :)
1- I try to watch shows and movies in english (with or without subtitles
2- I take phone english courses (with my company)
3- I do some exercises on the internet platform (when I don't have time to book courses)
4-I read some comics books. The advantage of this last method is that you can understand the dialog even if you don't know all the vocabulary and in the same it's very simple way to talk and it's funny :)

In conclusion, I think that all medologies can help if the student is constant and regular. And this is the big deal :)

By the way, Omar I'm also interseted by your cooking skills :)

I started over studying English when my son went to the middle school: he asked me to make some questions about the lessons but unfortunately I wasn鈥檛 able, so I decided to resume what I studied at school. It was (and it still is) very difficult for me after so long鈥�.I didn鈥檛 remember nothing. The problem is that I have so little time. I usually read on 蜜芽传媒 learning, sometimes, on internet I read English newspapers, or English blogs.... There are many way to improve written and spoken English but constancy is very important. Another way is watching dvd, selecting English language, but I need to be more concentrated鈥�.. I have a question for you: do you need to improve english for your job of for your own pleasure?

As a learner of English I鈥檇 like sharing you my experience with learning English which is a bit special
Because I started it a long career at age of seventy now I am seventy-three .
After three month a language school I began my self-study by using these methods:
1- I chose some web site which give English lesson (I鈥檓 going to mention some of them later)
2- I try to practice my little knowledge any way and any where by lestning radio watching TV
Speaking with friends talking alone about any subject.
3- I downloaded free stories and read them and I wrote my daily memories in English; but I didn鈥檛 care firstly about mistakes (because we learn from our mistakes)
4- I built folders for vocabularies grammar pronunciation writing where I put pieces of paper
Regarding each subject ; then before going to bed I review them.

These are some method I used to use which were very useful I wish they were useful for you too.

First of all Omar - lovely post. It was so much fun to read it. Some of the ways you I myself haven't tried. I'm in awe of your commitment and dedication to learning English.

Everyone who has read Omar's post - I am Omar and Christina's Indian friend in that photograph and having known them for almost 3 years now I can tell you that they are one of the most amazing people I know in my life and an extended family. Omar is an enthusiastic cook too, while Christina loves to bake.

One way we practiced English/Italian was we would translate the titles of the vast collection of books and DVD that they have. Another way was watching English movies with subtitles. But come to think of it now in China I should try these methods mentioned above. Mandarin is definitely hard and the way I practice is that I keep trying to hit on Chinese girls and invite them home for Indian food and in the process learn Mandarin from them. My food blog is www.yinducai.tumblr.com ('yindu cai' means Indian Food in mandarin) in case your interested. I've never had a teacher but I improve best just by random chat with random people.

I am really interested in every of your writing; they are very attractive and skillful. and you know your ways of learning English are so creative that i will follow some. i have been studying EL by listening numerous English songs of the famous and popular pop band music, for it is very easy to listen and remember. Like you, i see it really works. Although i dont have approriate conditions to go on with these methods of studying, neither by "free dinning homecooked" nor by telephone. but i think they are the effective methods to improve EL skills day by day.

The techniques which I use to improve my communication skills of English are

Daily Routine to be best at english speaking
Technique
Volume

1.Reading News Papers.
One paragraph daily

2.Watching News channel.
15 Minutes

3.Watching English Flicks.
2 Flick a weak

4.In Daily routine, converting conversations done in native language by people around us in English.
As much as you want

5.Listening English songs.
10 minutes

6.Finding english word for object come across in our daily routine, No matter we are studying,eating,playing or driving.It will not divert our focus from core job.
It takes only 1 minute to check word for an object whose english word you don't know.
At least 3 Object

7.Explain a day of weak in your notebook with new words.
Once in a weak

8.Keep an eye on each situation you go through daily and use appropriate idiom.
1 Idiom daily

9.Make your own register to keep record of words with your examples which your acquainted with.

10.Don't memorize words. Use it while speaking with friends ,teacher etc then it gets register in you mind which you will never forget.It will come out whenever you need it without recalling it.

11.Have glance of all word
at least a time in two weak so will not forget and use them.

Keep dictionary in your mobile if finds new unknown word then make it known in a click.
If don't have dictionary in mobile then write it in sms and store it in drafts in mobile when you will reach home find in dictionary and update mobile sms with its meaning.

hi Omar, i went to italy last year in dec. i couldn't speak any italian,but they speak good english in italy,so i had no trouble go shopping ,in a restaurant... not so many people in japan can speak better english than people in italy!

I really admire u and ur wife.You all are very brave.I come from Viet nam which I have less oprotunities to make foreign friends.To improve my E skills,i have to spend much time and money.Therefore,I see ur method 's very excellent and good."a song a day" which I have practiced for a few months is simmilar to u. :).It 's easy to do.But the rest of this blog,it' s difficult for me to do,because i am shy person.In deed,i am trying to overcome those.And i hope i will do them one day.Your weeding photo is so cute,I actually do like it.I also like Italy,espeically its food which 's so delicous such as pizza,spaghatti...Hope I will have a chance to visit this beautiful country.

A great way to improve your English is to watch a lot of movies and cartoons in English; as it will improve your pronunciation as well as your speaking and vocabulary, I also try to speak English all the time with my friends and doctors in university.

I am in full agreement with Abdullah. I think listening to podcasts is the best way to improve your english. I have just started listening radio and there is a very interesting channel called "the complete guide to everything". I guess it will be helpful for people who want to improve their english as well as their british accent. This show comes live from Uk. I will suggest everyone should listen to this comedy show. It makes you laugh and improves your english simultaneously.

Hello Omar, My name is Wisarut. I am from Bangkok, Thailand. To tell you the truth, My English was not quite good for the last 2 years. I have made attempts to improve the necessary skills of English in very economical ways. For example, I have my favorite site such as Formspring. I have been using this web site to practice writing which is really helpful and practical because in this web site there are some questions that I would be able to get some questions from other friends, owners of web site, or even an answering machine. Either of them surprises me a lot. Sometimes I cannot make predictions about questions by my own, but actually I try my best to answer quizzes under the time constraint. This is because I realize that in the realized situation I do not need to think about words of vocabulary exactly. Every thing must props up automatically. Therefore I have been using this forum to help enhance my writing capability. Moreover, I just got an idea about the speaking session. In the past I have a hard time to speak English with confidence, but after all I found out that you must have some vocabularies on the top of head first in order to project ideas and then try to use all of them as much as possible. I kept talking to myself for a while or even my cats in front of my house. Though they deny talking with me or seem to be aloof toward me sometimes. For example, I have a small conversation to them by saying hello. Do you have anything to make a confession? etc....I continue to talk with them whenever I feel grumpy or upset in order to vent my frustration. That is not only another way to get rid of stress but also help me to feel at ease during the time of conversation as well. For a couple of months later It seems to me that I need to engage myself to real conversations, so I decide to volunteer to become a tourist guide at Wat Inn, which is a temple in Bangkok. I choose to practice here 3 times a week, that is because there are some foreigners coming and visiting this temple all day long. All of them are nice people. I think that the first impression matters most, so I happen to talk with them with a smile face and appropriate conversations. Some people are okey and listen to me attentively, but others do not. Actually I do not care at all. One thing that I think of all the time is that I must master English on the speaking session so that I will have good opportunities to meet with other peoples and exchange special experiences. These are all tips of suggestions of mine that I want to share with your guys.

sorry omar, if my writing n my language is not excellent like other people... actually i'm always find a ways to enhance my language.... nowadays, in my country english language is more important in order to get a good jobs.. u need to compete with other people if u want get a good jobs... unfortunately, i'm not born in the family or environment that using english language in their life.. i need to learn itself.... sometimes it makes me feel sicks coz, i need to learn it alone...if i try to communicate with my siblings using english language, it really weird and make us laugh each other...mmm... i really envious with some people in other country... especially in the country that using english language as their native language... but its ok... this is one of process learning in our life... i need to think positive..... think positive...... :)

Ok Im juan, Im just 24 years old, Im from Colombia... Why im here? Because I really want to share my experiences, to know something about all of you and mainly practice english, cause simply I love it. Its my job... Yess Im teacher... Possibly u could think, he is teacher but he hasnt enough skills to be one, but i just do my best, each day I try to improve, learn from everywhere to transmitt what I know, and thats why Im here...

I want to share my method also, Try to make an habit of watching English news,watch free video conversations these will not only improve reading,writing skills it will also improve speaking and listening skills.

i m very impressed what u did for your English Learning, u r very Prudent about ur methods. Omar bt now days u r a english singer that is the best thing. I am form India n here is several types of language used by people, the know english, perhaps the use english bt not so good. Then i heard about 蜜芽传媒 news n website, and im trying to understand news for English Pronunciation. Hope coming days i'll be able to speak n write a good english.
