Dady Dady, please don't forget to bring my school shoes

Enayat Enayat | 19:46 UK time, Monday, 5 July 2010

I always wake up before 6 : 00 AM getting ready to go to office but today It was almost 7:30 AM when a sudden strong jerk awaked me from my sleepy mood. It was exactly a heavy explosion of suicide attack. As usual my mom asked me in hurry to go to the explosion place and help the casualties. My home is around one hundred meters from the main road to the Kabul International airport where such attacks taking place mostly. After few minutes I was there.

A vehicle of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) was entirely in the fire and smoke was rising up in the cloudy sky. Wounded and killed civilians were laying down on the road and road sides and blood of the wounds was flowing like someone has broken a tanker of blood. I hesitated to helping which one of them, because everyone was in a dire need of help that time. National police along with ordinary people were running to collect bodies, meat and part of bodies of the human beings, I started helping with 2 others to get an injured out of his car while another injured at my back just pulled my leg toward him, I saw him in a very bad condition yelling for rescue. I tried to hold him up from the road and take him to the ambulance, he was a bit heavy, but I could manage by help of another person to take him to the ambulance, there were few other bodies already inside the ambulance. The driver accelerated towards the hospital, but unfortunately after few minutes the wounded man who seems to be a shopkeeper had lost his live in my hug while his mobile phone was ringing in his pocket, I though it is the best time to answer his phone in order to Inform his friends or family members. I answered the phone while I heard the voice of a small child saying, "Dady Dady, please don't forget to bring my school shoes on your returning back home".
Now it is almost one year passed, but I still feel, that child is asking for his school shoes from his dead Dad.

Hi Enayat! I've just read your story and I can feel a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes. I'm really sorry for all people who were killed and injured in this terrible bomb attack and of course for their families. I've been lucky because I've never been in such a situation myself and I've never seen people dying from awful wounds. I can't even imagine how it felt when you heard those words of the child who was so sure that his Daddy would come home without fail and bring his school shoes. It must be someting you can never forget about or even just fully recover from.
This year on 29 March two female suicide bombers killed themselves in the Moscow metro. As the result 40 people were killed and 88 injured. Those two stations on which the attacks occured are on my everyday route to the University. My friends and I could be there too but we were lucky. After these attacks I saw a lot of people with flowers who brought them to makeshift memorials on the stations. Most of these people didn't even know the casualties but they wanted to pay their respects anyway. The memorials were buried in flowers at least for a few weeks and there were crowds of people there at any time. And of course there were those who lost their dearest and nearest. You could easily tell them from passers-by because the deepest sorrow marked their faces. It was the hardest thing for me to see their tortured expressions, their agonized eyes. It was then when I thought that every accident, every crime and espesially every war caused much more victims than we read about in newspapers. These victims we'll never hear about are children, wives, husbands, brothers, sisters, parents, friends, ... And the list can be continued.
You must be a very brave and noble man to rush without a hesitation into the thick of those events, Enayat, but I hope you'll never be forced in such a situation again.
    Take care!

    Hi there,
You brought up very tough topic...suicide bombers, terrorist's attacks is something that is hard to stop or prevent. Many innocent civilians die just because somebody is seeking revenge on his political enemies. I think, there is not justification for these people who commit terrorist attacks. You are a very brave and selfless man.

    Hi Enayat,
again my brother, unfortunately; I don't understand anything in your second theme also, neither in cricket nor in suicide bombers. I hope your third theme will not be about a culinary art - I don't understand anything in culinary.
    Best wishes,
    Emat

How unspeakably sad! How utterly cruel and condemnable, those attacks, any of them! It must have been next to impossible for you to go back to normal after having experienced this. And yet, it is good to read that there are people like you, rushing out to help those that have been injured.
How badly we all would want to avoid such things happening and how helpless we all feel... Whatever we can do - if anything can be done at all, other than helping as bravely as you did - is most often confined to very small spheres of influence; but still I think we should not get tired of enhancing mutual understanding between people of different opinions, races and religions and stand up for peaceful solutions of conflicts always. What I feel would be of vital importance is to fight poverty and to work for better economic opportunities world-wide. Of course this is an issue for "big politics", but in a way, we're all part of the system, aren't we? I'm trying to do my tiny share of it by working (among other things) for a fair-trade organisation. Tiny, I know. The great things are for the heroes among us...
    With deepest respect,

    Hi Enayat
Crazy situation between the two poles of this country on one pole the sounds of cheers for the cricket team on the other pole sounds of explosions and crying families.
I wish one day there will be only the normal life sound in your country.

    hi Enayat!
well that's an awful common story; it could sound bitter and cooler but i think i get used to that. And it's vitally important to keep that feeling to be able to go and save wounded people, and carry died people. that's the world, i won't be pessimistic but i think it will never change. Some people need to make other people suffering a lot to feel how happy they are. That's the world of human being, the "perfect specie".
I wish i were a vegetable, or more.. a tree!
Sad pleasant post, thanks to share with us, best wishes.

    Hi Enayat,

It is really a sad story about the catastrophe of civil wars in your country. Nowadays, many areas in the world are spending ethnic and religious conflicts, leaving many hundreds dead every day. A major question is now how to stop the war and restore order as well as peace for Afgans and others. To answer this question, we must find out about the main reason of such activities and why they are more likely to happen in modern time. It is clear that poverty is the main cause for such conflicts and religious abuses also contribute to instabilities. Therefore, I argue that improving people life in poor countries and respect their religions will make the world better and lasting peace will be achieved.

    Hi there,

A very good entry. Love the part when the phone ringing. Very dramatic. Almost made me cry. Feel very pity for that kid. Can't imagine if i was there. It must takes a lot of courage to be in that situation. Just like any other sane human being, i wonder why there are people out there who sacrifices their life (which they thought it was good) but they have no idea at all how selfish they were. They killed others who wanted to live this life. And the worst part is, they also killed the future of the innocent people's family that left behind. What is wrong with these people? Why dont they just bomb themself in an isolated place where doesn't effect anyone else? *Sigh* Anyway, your post did bring me into some kind of mixed feelings. It was a good one. Hope to read more from you.

Hi~ Enayat, thanks for your sharing. It is a very bitter story. I feel sad after reading it.
I think such stories happen each day in places at war. War, disease, unstable state etc, such topics are repeatedly talked about, or seriously blamed by us, yet those questions still exist. People are still
suffering from those situation which is caused by some people's pursue of power of control.
It seems those questions can be hardly resolved.Or, it can be resolved,
but without a time table--when there will be no war in the world, when sick people can receive proper and quick treatment, and when people can lead a peaceful life.

When I read the story, I really want to jump to it and help to rescue the wounded with you. However, I know I can't. the inpulse of one could not solve the countless problems. So, I try to do something for people beside me, to let them smile, feel comfortable and happy. I always prey for the people in the countries at war, for those who are suffering from disease, for those who are unfairly treated. I prey that those people can overcome their poor situation and lead a better life.

Enayat, I believe the poor fatherless child has been deeply grieved. I sincerely wish he overcome it, be strong and be a help to people who have
similar sad experience like him when he grow up.

at last, Enayat, you are very brave. I have a lot to learn from you.
    Thanks.

Hi Enayat, your story is very dramatc. Every day news report death and destruction in your country.
I read young people or children put down mines on the roads! Still adults and military leaders will use innocent people without respect we'll have other victims.
I hope in a peaceful change.
Thanks to share with us your experiences, take care

    Hi Enayat!

You must be very strong personality! Good for you! You told this story in so restrained way, that even in some of comments I saw the doubt about truthfulness of it. As for me I fully believe you!
I suppose, you know that in Moscow (and I was born there) almost every half a year act of terror happens. I live abroad now and every time I hear of it, I pray to God for my family! It's really hard to understand! And I'm really sorry that it happens! I've got nothing to say more! Rest in peace! Each of victims!

Everything that doesn't kill us, makes us stronger!

    Best wishes,
    Jan

    Dear Enayat,
thank you very much for telling us that story. It's difficult to talk about such things, but, I think, it's important. I wish such a tragedy would never happen again - in your town and in the world.

    Dear Friends,
Thank you very much for your great comments. in some of comments I saw the doubt about truthfulness of it, but this is reality and i don't see any doubt, I have been faced such events many times. i was not strong or brave that much, but the situation of my country made me be like this. we are mixture of mourn and happiness. Every one of us wants to be member of the developed world and every one of us like injure bird still attempting to have a better life. But unfortunately we are not in the statues of having a strong central administration neither the international community help us effectively or at least to cut the hands of some neighbors of us.

    thanks
