Gardening..

Post categories:

Dominique Dominique | 15:51 UK time, Friday, 24 September 2010

Today i'm happy to talk about my garden. Obviously i'm not the one who started sowing the seeds of flowers and trees!! But at least i try to take care as much as possible when i come back home for holidays.

Okay, let's say first, it is hard work, especially on August, September, because of the endless rainy days. So, trimming hedges and grasses is like a waste of time, the plants will soon grow up the next day. [ yes i know i exaggerate but it is more or less that. ] No wonder that my sisters are always running away at the " gardening time", i mean every days at 7 or 8 am.
So we start by mowing the lawn, as you can see on the picture below. Unfortunately this morning, we were only two of us , so we did all the chore!

Secondly, we remove the grass between the.... hemmm... how do we call that.. ( SOS teacher !!!!) anyway, we remove the grass as you can see on the picture.

Then, we trim the hedges...

As i mentioned early, no need to water the plants, as it's raining almost every day.
that's my home's thriving garden, even if we take care or not. I'm very hardworking! i'm the one who has done almost all the slog this morning! My cousin Lydia ( with the brown dress) hasn't been very efficient. but i least the work was sufficient... for today! Another hardwork tomorrow..(`,`)

What a nice garden you have!
I think sometimes is better has a nice garden than a dog as a hobby. At least for me gardens seem more interesting than dogs.
Either way they bring a lot of work for someone that wants to take care of them.

    Greets!

Hi, Dominique: How lovely your garden! You say that your "gardening time" starts at 7 or 8am, but in some photos it seems to be dark at the back. Is it the sky, a wall or just my imagination? Please, tell me. I'd like to colaborate with you there. At home I only water plants that grow in pots in the patio. Bye and thanks for your posts. The photos are beautiful. Looking forward to your news. Beatriz.

    hi, Dommi :D
you have a nice garden, really! and from the pictures, you have a great house too, is it rite?

    for Natanael,
sorry i just don't have enough time to 'enjoy my self-time' (is it understandable? ) there was a lot of things to do, considering the mid-term is just a few weeks again to start, so my lecturer gave a lot of tasks. when i'm home it's just a time to sleep, i'm so tired for this week, really...
i've been laughing when i read about your call to the headquarter on Scotland, well, it's amazing, Natanael. i guess you've been preparing your heart, mind and soul to call them, rite? (okay, i'm just kidding, lol)
oh.. from the previous comment i mean a thousand of islands (sorry for the mistake)
can you tell me, what's the best university in Brazil? well, u take another major for your 2nd MBA, that's great i think. and with your age, i guess you love to study, is it rite? do you will continue to the 3rd MBA?

    for Nastya,
wow.. your name sounds beautiful too. by the way how old are you? because in my mind we're at the same age. i'm 20th :) but sorry if it's not right.

Svetlana, how do you do :)
truly, i was confuse how to read your name, could you tell me how to read it? by the way, howdy Russia? few months ago i read in a newspaper about the fog in your country, how about today?

    hear from y'all soon
    best regards,

    Hi Dommi! Hi everybody!
Lucky you Dommy, for you have such a beautiful garden! To be honest I'm a little bit envious of people who live in country houses with large beautiful gardens. I wish I lived in such a house too. But no such luck! I live in a flat in a block of flats, and content myself with the nice view from my windows. I like your photos and your dress!

Hi Nicea! Nice to meet you! Here is the transcription of my name Svetlana (svet'la:na:) or Sveta ('sveta:).
Nicea! What can I tell you about the fog? Well, this summer (July and August)was just a nightmare for the inhabitants of the central part of Russia. We experienced the most terrible heatwave ever and as a consequence the most consuming forest fires. Several villages were burnt to ashes. The smog from the forest and peat-bog fires was unbearable. We had been suffocating from it for two months. I still can't believe we are through this, and the summer time is over. The smog was everywhere, we couldn't breath. It stung our eyes and hurt our throats. We were depressed. Imaging this: everywhere you look you can see only the fog, you can't see the sun, the clear sky, and you are so hot (feel hot), you are sweating all the time, you can't sleep because it's too hot and there is no fresh air to breath but the poisonous smog. Freaking horrible, isn't it? It was like some kind of horror film. I thought it wasn't going to come to an end ever. I along with my husband, son and sister managed to run away from this to the Black Sea shore for two weeks. When we got home, the situation turned to normal. Now we have so-called Indian summer (we say so about fairly warm and sunny autumn). The sun is shining right now, the air is fresh and clear. So I think I had better go walking.

    Bye, see you

hello everybody! thanks for your comments! Well Beatriz about the darkness, first it was quite cloudy that morning, and it rained just after we finished! i think you are talking about the black wall. thank you for the new word " tile" (^_*)!
2Svetlana: oh dear you really had a hard time! i can imagine how difficult and unpleasant it was to breathe! i'm happy that at last you can say to yourself " it's such a nice weather! let's go for a walk! " (^_^) Thanks for your comments.

    Hi Dominique!

Thanks for sharing these breathtaking photos of your lovely garden with us. It looks so neat that I just can't help asking you who planned it. Please, tell us! I believe I'm not the only one who's curious about it. Am I? (^_*) I think we all envy you a little (;-)) but there's a flip side of having a big garden (it's quite big, isn't it?): as you said it's hard, even backbreaking work to maintain it in such a perfect state as in your photos. And it takes a lot of time, too. But the result is worth it :) As for me, I don't mind mowing lawns and raking cut grass or fallen leaves. But removing grass from the space between tiles ... Ugh! I can't stand doing it. It's just so boring, don't you think? You need to be really patient.

Dear Nicea! Your guess is right - I'm twenty years old. And though it's been a while since my birthday I'm still not used to this fact ... But I suppose with years it's going to be even harder to get used to your own age. Not very optimistic, is it? But don't listen to me - it's just nonsense anyway.

Dear Svetlana! Could you tell me the name and the author of the book you were talking about in your previous posts? You've aroused my interest in it :)

    Best wishes,
    Nastya, Russia

Hi dear Nastya! The author is Nikolay Zamyatkin, the name of the book? Hmm... It's difficult for me yet but I think it's something like "It's impossible to teach you a foreign language" but I'm not sure, or maybe "You can't be taught a foreign language" would be more precise. Maybe not. In any case you may find the book by surfing the Internet, I guess the author's name will be enough. The book is written in such a style that it's easy to read. It's interesting, and at times it's very funny. It caught my eye one day, when I was indulging myself in one of my favorite occupation which is exploring a bookshop. When I picked it up from the shelf I started to read it on the spot. About a half an hour later (or even more) I realised I was still reading it and a salesgirl was glaring at me. It was embarrassing. She didn’t say a word but her gaze spoke volumes. It said ‘Don’t you know it’s against the rules to read a book before you buy it? Pay for it and you may read it to your heart’s content. Not the other way around. Period’ So I had to buy the book since I'd already been a half way through it. I wasn’t planning on buying it but I did eventually. And I must say I found some information very useful. Nastya, this book is for those who is learning languages by themselves. You are a University student, and I guess a very diligent one, because your English (judging by your writing skills) is very good indeed! But if you are curious... Well, go ahead!

    Best wishes,
    Svetlana, Russia

Hi dear Svetlana! Thank you for your answer :) I've already found the book on the Internet by the author's name and the description looks really promising. I think it will be useful for me to read such a book because in the first place I'm trying to teach two fourteen-year-old "kids" English grammar and to enlarge their vocabulary a little. I have to admit it's not an easy task. There's some progress in their English, though, but not as much as I want it to be. Well, maybe I'm a little impatient ;-) And in the second place I'm a part-time student and that means I have to work a lot on my own to get good results. Thanks for the compliment on my writing skills but I'm afraid I don't deserve it: I'm just very careful with words and I always have a dictionary near at hand - that's all. By the way, I LOVE bookshops! I could live there! When I'm in a bookshop panic seizes me because I don't know what book to choose and because I don't want to choose. Dictionaries of English are my passion. I know it's stupid as there are plenty of wonderful on-line dictionaries and I use them a lot but I like holding a dictionary in my hands, turning its pages ...

Um ... Dommi, don't be angry with me for this digression ;-)

    Best wishes,
    Nastya, Russia

hi nasty give me a link to have a look that adress.ı wannna learn mans methods.so write internet adress which contains informations about man s book.bye

  • Comment number 15.

Dear Nastya! I'll be glad if the book helps you somehow. You know it's funny but it's me who usually says the words "I could live in a bookshop". I'm a bookworm, a book junkie I'd say. I adore everything about books, the way they look, feel, smell. So a bookshop is just a perfect place for me. I can't do without reading. And there is nothing stupid in liking a book in your hands at all even though it's a dictionary. Nowadays I can find any book in the Internet, but I agree with you, there is nothing better than to feel a book in my hands!

Dear Talha! I've got it. The answer is yes, I'm a University student, and my second year of training begins tomorrow. It means that I'm going to be busy as a bee, therefore I won't be able to annoy anybody with my too long comments. Just kidding.

    See you, best wishes
    Svetlana, Russia

    Hello Dear Nicea,

I'm glad to hear about you.
Thanks for your words, and yes l kie to study very much, but as i told you i'm about to finish my second MBA course, and thinking on the future, i'm planing to been study on Finance area, maybe another MBA.

There are many good Universities on the Brasil, in my state (Rio de Janeiro) we have 4 public (goverment) universities like UFRJ; UERJ; UFF and UFRRJ. Into of the UFRJ we have the School called COPPEAD (Excellence centre of MBA courses). We have the IME (Institute of Engeniring Militar) is an excellente school of engeniring. Also we have some particular school (Universities) like PUC (Pontific Catolic University), and IBMEC (Finance University Specialist). In São Paulo (other state next to me) we have the UNICAMP; USP; ITA (like MIT on USA) and others.

By the way. I'm young, just 37 years old, is young isn't it? (^_^).
If you come to Brazil (Rio de Janeiro) don't forget to let me know.

Once again thanks for your kind words. Have a wonderful week for you and your family.

Cheers - Natanael (Rio de Janeiro- Brasil)

Dear Nicea! I know that twenty years old is not that much but I find it a little frustrating anyway. It's not because of problems (there are always some problems regardless of how old you are), it's because of the age itself. I guess Oscar Wilde's "The picture of Dorian Gray" that I read last year planted these gloomy thoughts into my head (I'm a little too impressible ;-)).
Yes, I continue my studies at university, the new autumn term began three weeks ago. I study English and Spanish and my major is translation. "People's Friendship University of Russia" is the name of my university. I like it very much - it's beautiful and has so much meaning in it. There are a lot of foreign students there. Just the other day I had a small talk with a nice boy from Uganda. He's a medical student and his Russian is really good.
And no, I have never met Svetlana in my life (unfortunately, I should say). The distance between our cities is about 260 kilometres. Well, it's not a long distance at all if you take a look at the map of Russia (^_*) but it's enough to separate two people.

    Cheers!
    Nastya, Russia

Hi Nicea! First of all I want to thank you and Dommi for your sympathy.
I'm thirty two year old. Excuse me but I didn't understand your next question, something about my school and the smog. Could you put it the other way? Concerning your other questions I would be glad to answer them, but I'm afraid I'm not the right person to be asked about politics, news and such. For one thing - I'm not into politics, for another - I haven't been watching TV (particularly news) a long while. There is so much violence and disasters and human suffering and injustice in the news (wolrd news and Russia's). So I prefer not to upset myself by watching it. Don't think that I'm unaware of what's going on in Russia and in the World entirely. I live amongst people who appear are always too eager to enlighten me:)
The vital problem in my country right now is an increase in food prices. As you may know we had incredible drought in the central part of Russia this summer and as a consequence crop failure. So the prices on foodstuffs go up and everybody is concerned. Nicea, I have no idea what you'd like to know. It's always easier answering a specific question, because if you ask something in general I don't know what you expect to hear about. That's all for now.

    Best wishes
    Svetlana

Hey girls! Nicea and Nastya! What are you two talking about? What is all this nonsense about your age! It sounds like twenty is time to retire, like twenty is pensionable age and when you are twenty something life is over. It's rediculous! Nastya, I think you read the wrong books!!! Stop it! Life is WONDERFUL!!! Life is a miracle, it's a gift from God. Think of it this way and be grateful for every day and every year you live. You have so much ahead of you - love, family, children, and life full of interesting events! You can start brooding about your age when you are 95 and not a day earlier! And if you think of aging too much now, you are going to get wrinkles ahead of time. So put this rubbish off your mind and keep smiling!

P.S. If you feel like staying twenty, then fall in love with Edward Cullen:) (I hope you know who I'm talking about, I guess there is no way girls at twenty don't know about the most famous vampire ever. Am I right?)

    Cheer up, girls!

  • Comment number 23.

Dear Svetlana and Pary! You don't have to worry about me - I'm fine, really. And those gloomy thoughts are not always on my mind: even Oscar Wilde's Dorian Gray failed to plant them too deep into my head :) I'm not depressed or something and I enjoy living, I really do. The idea to be twenty forever doesn't seem seductive to me at all. And speaking about Edward Cullen - well, he's not to my taste, he's too sweet. Stephenie Meyer's Jasper Hale and Ian are more interesting characters to my mind ;-)
Oh, Pary! Thanks for your congratulations but actually my birthday was in May :)

    Best wishes,
    Nastya, Russia
