In the name of Love

In Miraflores a couple of giants have the longest kiss of their lives. They are loving in front of the sea, below the gray sky, above of the stares of curious people. Their bodies are not perfect, the silhouette of their figures are irregular, but they don't care about it, because they are genuine. The day could be sunny, cloudy or rainy but they will always be there. Nothing matters because they will love for all eternity.

The love in times of war

During the19th century Miraflores was in the middle of a war, known as The Pacific War. (Between Chile and Peru). Peruvian soldiers and civilians died defending his district, for this reason Miraflores it’s also know as “heroic district”.

Boat anchor, symbol of the Pacific War

Nowadays Miraflores is considered one of the most exclusive districts in Lima. There are luxurios hotels, pubs, discos, restaurant and places of entertainment. Although this disctrict is not only attractive for its buildings but also for its beautiful parks and gardens. One of them is: "El parque del Amor" (Love Park).

Miraflores distric

The sunset could be the inspiration of many people that find in that a place a perfect shelter to think, cry or to love. Between the see and the city. Love Park is located on the cliffs of Miraflores overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

Parque del Amor (Love Park)

The peruvian poet Antonio Cilloniz used to say that "In the cities, they do not build monuments to lovers", for these reason "Love Park" was opened on February 14, 1993, St Valentine's Day. It’s a place dedicated to all lovers and offers a stunning view over the bay of Lima.

Love Park (romantic quotes)

Mosaics on the wall

Love

In the surrounding it’s possible to see some romantic quotes, from peruvians poets, which are artfully decorated with colorful mosaics on the wall

“Amor es como luz” (Love is like light) Martin Adan.
“Finge corazón, díle que las amas” (Pretend my heart, tell her that you love her) Marco Martos.
"El viento es blando cuando se aproxima al corazón" (The wind is soft when approaching a heart).
“Amor es solo un pajaro que deambula” (Love is like a bird that wanders through the night) Rocio Romina Bances.

It’s possible too, read some lines of Inca poetry.

“Al cántico dormirás /media noche yo vendré” ("With the song you’ll sleep / I will come midnight”), Inca poetry.

“The kiss” of the giants

Victor Delfín is a peruvian sculptur and is the father of the the giants in love. He made this monument of love and he baptized as “El Beso” (The kiss) the same day of the inauguration of Love Park.

The Kiss

“El Beso” (The kiss) is the most impressive sculpture of Love Park and it describes two lovers in a passionate kiss. It’s normal during the day and night see couples here, kissing or snuggled close together. The monument has a dimension of 12 meters long and 3 meters high.

Many just married couples, with a bouquet in hand, go to the park to be sealed with a kiss the consecration of their wedding. It’s common to see couples in love promise eternity love, fidelity and draw a heart with tiny stones in the ground as symbol of his love while the sunset is painted in the skyline.

Every year on "Valentines Day" a massive people participate in a particulary contest. The competition takes place between couples attendees who can keep "the longest kiss”.

Love Park - Love is like a bird that wanders through the night

Voices in the park

“My memories are stronger than your oblivion”. It belongs to Carlos A. Salaverry, peruvian poet, and his quotes tranport me to the past when, every weekend, I used to go to the "Love Park" to read some poems. I used to read in silence, like praying, until the night came on me. Until "she" came into my mind.

    Hi Miguel!

You are a real romantic, aren't you :) I like the way you think and write. Your post have inspired me to create something as well. May be it's time to write "poetry" again... :)

Hi Miguel! Well, another interesting tour to getting to know the history and unbelievable city of Lima. Not just that. At the same time you have mastered in a decent way to learn me a little bit of spanish and some names of peruvian Literature. I confess without hesitation that´s all in all unknown world for me. And believe me I am only surpised in a positive way. Much better than to watch any travel documentary on TV. Lovely weekend for you and all! marianna,Slovakia

    Hi Miguel!

Wow! It's quite extraordinary!! Which not, in fact, the topic....the sense...and the writing style!!! I get confused while I read your blog that I'm reading a piece or enjoying a painting. You had better be a painter rather than a writer, I guess. You're a real poet (as you mentioned, Miguel).

I wish if I could be there and kiss my...........Anyway, thanks a lot.

@ Marina: Miguel is not only romantic, but also he can make others so, I think. And, I don't think you're quite exceptional. Then, keep up trying. Look forward to reading your poetry.

    Thanks.

Thank you Marina, I'd like to read some poems of you. I enjoy reading poems, and I tried to write some pieces of poetry, but I am not good (I think so). =(

If I am a romantic guy, well I think so .... but I belive that everyone is romantic in the way they can express their feelings, some guys can show their feelings and others can't.

I hope your poems soon MArina =)

Thank you "bbllmm" (sorry, I don't know your name). You mentioned in your previous post abou Paul Gaugin, well you are right, Gaugin came to Peru with his family and he was known as "salvaje peruano". (Peruvian Savage). Interesting isn't it?

    Best Regards friends!

    Miguel

I expected for a picture of you and your GF, kissing in the park
by the way, what’s your record? How long is your kiss :)

  • Comment number 6.

Hahahaa you're so funny Mustapha, I don't have a girlfriend yet and I prefer taking photographs to other people ... and about my kiss record??? uhmm I think a kiss could be like a shot of Whiskey, You enjoy it more if you try only a little bit... "Quality rather than quantities"

    Thank you Mustapha

    Miguel

Sorry me Ashish, I hadn't seen your comment!

Thank you so much for your words!! I was very flattered. When I was a child I used to paint and draw places and people, but I think write is a way to draw and to express emotions and feelings as I draw...

And waht about the Kiss? hahaha Are you looking for your Blue prince?

    Thank you Ashish

Hi, Miguel: Always interesting and well written your blogs, and speccially attractive "El Parque del Amor". The poets quotations on the wall with the little tiles decoration make the monument picturesque. I think after reading the last paragraph "Voices in the park" that you are a very sensitive and romantic guy. Very nice the photos. I´d like to see some more of the Pacific coast. Could it be? Thanks. Bye. The best. Beatriz.

  • Comment number 9.

    Thank you Beatriz!

I'd like to show you more photos about Pacific Coast, but it's a little complicated in this time, because the weather is crazy. In theory we are in Spring, but it's like winter. The sky is cloudy and foggy, and the photos are not good, but I try to take some =)

Matter of love is very sensitive. According to me, for everyone there is diffirent love or no love. I think talking about 'love' to anyone is not moral, beceuse you may be consedered to be unrealistic romantic dreamer while you consider it as most important thing in the world.

Love is just thinking of beloved. It should not be mention eonyone except your beloved.

If a man could pass thro’ Paradise in a Dream, and have a flower presented to him as a pledge that his Soul had really been there, and found that flower in his hand when he awoke—Aye? and what then?

—from the notebooks of Samuel Taylor Coleridge

    dear aliöztürk
your view of love is miracle,, the most ımportand that love must be given to who deserve it,,, here will be starting big discussion, because the real love, you should not accept anyone look your love, you just love of her/ his smiling, lookıng, hand, eyes or her/hıs view of life.
    thıs ıs the love.....
ı love.... all the sentences starting with this two word...
the god created us for love

    Hello Miguel,

Sorry but i forgot to comment your last post to Talha.

You were perfect on your comment. We live on State "Laico" in Brazil and we don't have a oficial religion. Everybody have the religion that want to believe and you can to worship according to their faith. There is a freedom to express you thinking and your faith.
Altough i'm Protestant (Evangelic), i believe first of all on the respect among the people, tribes and nations about the so important matter on our lives.

Talha, tell us more about you, your family, your country, your very important cities and historic cities (the old Constantinopla (in Portuguese)), and your religion as well.

Cheers - Natanael - Rio de Janeiro - Brazil

    Hello Miguel
This is my first comment to you (late better than never), but I've been following your writings with a big pleasure. Your writings are very interesting, informative and witty.I had another trip through history, traditions, culture, religions... to your marvellous country.
I had a chance to come your country last year.I admired it and visited Puno,(floating islands)white city, Arequipa (Colca..),Cusco and Machu Picchu..I have many nice memories as to your country. What a pitty I haven't been in Lima, maybe another time..Before coming overthere, I 've read some books about Peru. I had some information but have learnt many things through your writings. It is so special looking at the country through natives..

By the way...I have found the film "Tune in Tomorrow" based on Mario Varga's book. I will watch it in a short time. My friend said that all books of Mario Varga has been translating into Turkish.

Thank you very much. I am looking forward to your writings.

    All the best.

    dear Nadliv,

The last paragraph of my previous post belongs to Samuel Taylor Coleridge, not my words but I totally agree with him. I think his sentences give a wonderful description of love without saying 'love'.

I did not quote these sentences directly from Samuel Taylor's book, quoted it from Orhan Pamuk's book, Innocence Museum, which describes these sentences wonderfully throughout the book. He did quoted Samuel Taylor's sentences in the beginning of his book. So, I quoted a quotation.

    Best wishes

    Hi Miguel,

I love reading your story. Your style is fascinating.
I'm looking forward to reading your next post about 'a magic place', (whether what will be it? :)) but the two last places that you showed us were very interesting.
The cemetery is topical in these days, because in two weeks it will be the All Saint's Day, when we're going to cemetery to remember our deads and we're lighting a candle for them.
And the Love Park .... :), I've never heard about it yet. It's super. Unfortunatelly we don't have any Love Park or just I haven't heard about it :). It's grand and I like the kiss of giants ;).

    All the best,

I'd like you to talk us about the Inca empire and their characters.
