Dear Abigail,

here in the Czech republic, we celebrate Christmas on Christmas Eve - 24th December. We have special supper (usually fried carp and potato salad), sing carols by the decorated tree and than unwrap the presents which were under the tree. The Children believe that these presents are from Baby Jesus; but actually, nobody knows how does he look like - if like real Jesus or differently. I am not from a catholic family, so when I was a child I thought he looks like hedgehog in coat and cap (in Czech, hedgehod is "jezek", so it is very similar to Baby Jesus - "Jezisek"). It is sometimes very funny to talk with children about their ideas of Baby jesus :-)

It happens to me that I start to feel happier when we have the winter solstice (I don´t like winter), because as you say the way can only go up. It´s a possitive thougt that helps to face winter. Thank you very much for your Desember’s blog! Thank you for new vocabulary and grammar recommendations, they were usefull for me.
In Russian we celebrate Christmas after New year celebrate, on the 7-th of January. So it will be not soon. I think a New year celebration more popular in our country than the Christmas day. In the New year we give some presents for friends and relatives especially for children of course. Between the days from the 1 to 10 of January we have a long holiday.

Hi dear Abigail , what a pitty this was your last Blog . Thank you for your fruit ful Blogs , although I think I will hear from you in ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ multimedia page in FB . Do you know that in Iran from old time until now , people celebrate winter solstice ? We call the night of winter solstice Yalda night which means re birth . There are some big parties in family and they eat some special winter fruits and the most important one is watermelon !

it really is a pity that your posts are coming to an end. But maybe you can come back again at another opportunity to teach us more English as you have been doing so well.

It was a great partnership between you and Veronika. You two gave us good things to learn and think.

Here in my country the Christmas celebrations take place on the night of 24th. Families usually have meals very late at night. The typical dish is turkey. But nowadays it's been changing to another bird: the "Chester". I'm not sure weather it really is another bird or a variation of a chicken....

I registered on site on 25 December and have red some blogs.They are good and helpful for me. I feel I am very lucky when know the site.I think it will help me very much for learning english.

About my christmas

In our country, The New year celebration is more popular than the Christmas day. But I also have celebrated Chrismas with several friends. We had peacful, happy , friendly feast with wine and chicken pot. I feel happiness.Our party spent abour two hours.
