From Jan, Bulgaria

Jan

Hello to all of you!
Today I keep telling you about Bulgaria. This time the story will be about my New Year vacation at the ski resort, which name is Bansko. By the way, this is my sister Kate on the picture!

Bansko

I'd like to represent you Bansko in a few details. It is not only a modern ski resort. It's an ancient town in southwestern Bulgaria. There are several old houses at the outskirts of the town, which date to 100 BC. Also it's a birthplace of Bulgarian poet Nikola Vaptsarov and Bulgarian enlighteners Paisiy Hilendarski and Neofit Rilski. This town is like a museum actually! When you walk along these narrow streets among the ancient architectured houses, you could really feel the atmosphere of a past!
Now Bansko is the most popular Bulgarian winter resort. It's located at the foot of Pirin mountain at an altitude of 925 m above sea level. There are a lot of spa hotels because of many mineral springs there. Even in your room you could take a bath with mineral water!
It must be agreed that Pirin is astonished with its great views! And it attracts many many people from all Europe. Just look at this picture!

Pirin

It has the skiing tracks, which are suitable for riders on different levels. So my sister was very pleased with this fact because she's an experienced snowboarder.

Snowboarding

As for me, it was the first time I tried to ride a snowboard. What can I say! It hurts! During our holiday my sister's boyfriend, whose name is Alex, had a Birthday. We decided to celebrate it in Sofia. On our way to Sofia we visited the largest and most famous Eastern Orthodox monastery in Bulgaria, Rila Monastery. Look at the picture and see an amazing difference between left and right side of the mountains!
Rila

If you every visit this place, you have to taste Bulgarian trout from the mountain river, lying at your feet, and a flavored honey from the hillside!
At the end of my story I should say that the Birthday party was amazing! We went out and visited several bars, tasted molecular cocktails and even managed a piece of cake with candle! You could see how funny Alex makes a wish! Let it come true!

    Hello Jan,
How nice to see you again! I've been wondering when it would be your turn on this open blog... It's good to see you are doing alright. Obviously you are making the most of your life, as ever.
I'm racking my brain for those mysterious "molecular cocktails" - have you mentioned them before? I can't remember. Anyway, thank you for the photos, too! Whatever Alex wishes for, he seems to really, really want it, doesn't he?
    All the best,

Hi dear Jan , Lovely to see you here again !
Thank you to keep going the good Job of introducing magnificent Bulgaria to us . Recently I knew there are many tours from Iran to Bulgaria .As a usual I really amazed by your good talent at writing …. Lovely to see your sister kate and her boyfriend Alex . Kate seems a bit naughty and Alex seems so kind and friendly . So you had a lovely winter holiday : ) I hadn't a snowy holiday so far ( I mean in a ski resort ) . Actaully there is a small ski resort very near to my city . What a shame I havn't tried it yet : ( my citiy is 1500 meter above see level and Sabalan mountain is 3511 meters above see level . when I read that Bansko is 925 meter above sea level I really wondered .It 's how different places have different weather conditions . I must confess your recent Blog really tempted me to have a snowy holiday .
At the end I wish you a happy and healthy year 2011
Keep going your adventure girl !
