Hello everybody! I am so glad to say hello to you all!!

I am Olga from Russia. And I am here to share my knowledge and thoughts with you, dear readers, about Russia, and my home town Novosibirsk, which is a capital of Siberia. I will try to dispel some myths and perhaps even spark some an interest to travel and see for yourself.

So let's start!
Tell me what is your first image when you think about a Russian person or Russia itself? Bears, coldness, no greenery, gloomy faces, vodka...no doubt, what else? What question will come up first in your head about Siberia? Where is that...hmm..? Do people live there? I am joking about the latter of course:) So we will see what you will say in the end of February:)...

    Hi Olga,

Nice to meet you and welcome to this wonderful blogland.

Well, the first thing that comes into my mind about Siberia is the Trans-Siberian Railway. As I love going on long journeys I would like to have first-hand experience on travelling by this train.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon. Take care,

    Hello Olga
I was looking forward to meet you.
You won't believe me but I love your name. It comes from my childhood.
I used to visit my grandmother in the countryside many years ago when I was a child. Her house was, actually it's still there, right on front of a farm animals. The owner's daughter, Olga, was a friend of my grandmother and when we met each other we got on very well. She was nearly 16 years-old whereas I was only a little boy. She used to take me in the farm, between the animals, such as cows, horses and chickens... telling me about their behaviour and diet. I remember enjoing the time in the countryside with all those animals as I lived in a town. Then, we grow up and I didn't get in touch with her. The IT wasn't so developed .. So the name Olga is still in my mind and I'm a fan of it.
If I had a baby, I would give her the name Olga!
    Anyway, Russia...
To me Russia is definitely the white of the snow and the blue of the color's eyes of its pepole.. Bye the way, I've just come back from a snow day trip. I hadn't gone skiing for ages ! It was really fun.
    Bye

Dear Olga, How are you? I really have a good impression about Russian people. I think Siberia is a cold place and with a lot of potatoes:)We think about beatifull people. Our brazillian people dream to know the snow, because is so hot here. I remember a husky - a kind of dog - syberian husky.
I think that Russian people are so friendly. Aren't they???

    A big hug to you

    Hi,

I come from Poland therefore when we hear the word Siberia first of all we think about labour camps, about the transportation of our countrymen on the exile. Moreover for us it is such exotic things, generally speaking we know not too much about this region, I hope that will change after the this month.

    Hi namesake :-)

nice to meet You here in the ѿý LE
I'm ukrainian, so we are all Slavs, speak the same language, almost one culture, so I don't think that russian people are in something different from me in general.
What about Russia.... for me it's sooooooo big country with so old culture. Siberia - beautiful wild landscapes, uninhabited territories, many different indigenous people (nations), rich mineral resources(oil!!!), lake Baikal.
Also for me Siberia is associated with warm fur clothes(fur coats :-))

Here in Prague quite often Czechs don't like russian speaking people because of:

    1) history - occupation in 1968
    2) mass emigration of russian speaking people(from Russia, Ukraine, Moldavia)
    3) behavoir of russian people here, specially youth(sometimes I'm agree with czechs in this question)

I'm looking foward to your next post here.

    Hello Olga,
    I don't know a lot about siberia.
That is why will be a pleasure for me following your posts during this month.
I'm asking what do people do with so few hours of light in winter. I think it's very hard if you didn't grow up there. What is the temperature now?
Anyway, I'd like to have an holiday in your country in the next years.
What do you think it might be the best period of the year to visit siberia? Suggest us some nice cities or villages, except Novosibirsk of course.

    Ciao,

    Hi Olga,
I must agree with Olga_K that Russia and Siberia have negative meaning for a lot of Czechs. Now about me, well... I imagine a flat cold landscape, a lot of space, small villages... Am I right?
    Have a nice day,

It's wonderful for me to know about Russia and Siberia. When I was young I read Dostoievsky's books. And I got the impression that Siberia is a cold and uninhabited country. I imagine cold temperatures, very much snow, people wearing thick coats and drinking much vodka.... I'm from Brazil and here now the temperature is around 32ºC in my city in the midle of Brazil. I'm waiting to the next post, anxiously.

Writing you from another side of Russia, hope you do well so far in Novosibirsk :) I've been working for a long time with your region but never been to Siberia. Today in Moscow it's rather cold too, but it'll be more interesting to know how you all are doing there!

    Hi Olga
You have got a lot of comments and sights forward to Siberia and Russia. I can agree nearly all of them and I hope you can enlight the presented issues.

    For me Siberia is
    1) a part of Barents Region. That is very important thing considering the economy, social development and as an industrial recourse storage to this area and more over to the whole world's energy and raw material producing. Yes, as a part of Barents has a very important position.

    2) considering the global warming and it's effects to nature and environment, the Siberia will be one of the most important areas where the a) influences are and will be seen b) needs quick desicions making to protect damaging and c) will need a lot of support to after changed climate conditions effects.

    3) Considering people: Siberia is a place for many indigenous people. I know the indigenous people aren't in a high value in Russian cos of the Moscow and its inner govermental colonialism policy. We who lives outside are able to see how the position of the indigenous people would be better and more useful to your country, but maybe you are willing to clarify it by your ownself.

    4) My misery dream is to travel Arkhangelsk since 1982. It is not Siberia, but close to. I think I will do it one day. :-))

    Best regards to you Olga

    Hi there!

I am so glad that finally February ѿý Student Blogger has began posting messages.
When I think about Russia the first word coming to my mind is home. Russia is place where I come from; my motherland. Even though I was born in Russia I've never been in Siberia. Therefore, I am exited to know what it is like to live in Siberia. Moreover, it would be nice if you could upload some pictures of Siberian Landscape and Novosibirsk.
Tell us how cool the Russian people are and that we have a lot of stuff to be proud of. :-)

    Best wishes,

    Hi Olga
    Goodday!

Nice to read your blog about your nation and very welcome to you for offering us to comment on that.I am Prakash Adhikari from a mountainous country, Nepal.

Whenever I think about Russian people, first of all, what automatically comes in my mind is that the tall people of white complexion face, wearing cap, muffler, scarf, overcoat and longboots due to freezing cold temperature could be seen them walking on the ice filled ground everywhere.Secondly your country Russia is situated on northern teritory with vast amount of land, rich in natural resources and labourious people.Thirdly your hometown Siberia, I used to think before,it is the place like north and south pole of earth where only ice might be.There is no possibility of having human beings but I could know that you are from the same place and it is very glad to see you through this blog.

Finally I would like to share with you is that some birds from your native town come to fly here in Nepal for temporarily. They usally come here in winter season and get flying for 2/3 months here in warm places then they return to their nest,Siberia.

Before to conclude my comments I would like to offer a glimpse of my country briefly. Nepal is landlocked country of Asia with very rich in natural beauties like world's highest peaks Mt. Everest, Kanchanjunga, Amadablom etc, national parks and reserves, natural flora and fauna, the birth place of Lord Buddha as well. Once is not enough for visiting Nepal.

Looking forward to hear your comments soon.

    Thanks,
    Yours

    Hi Olga,

It is nice to meet on ѿý forum.

Well the first thing that comes into my mind when I hear about Russia is coldness. Here in my country, I have never experienced snow. I wish we could have it for one day at least.

Since I am a fun of soccer, I like Serbian players such as Stankovic and Mihajlovic. Mihajlovic is retired now. He was considered as one of the best players who can score from a free kick.

I look forward to hearing more about your country.

Hopefully we will visit it one day.

    Thank you.

"Tell me what is your first image when you think about a Russian person or Russia itself?"

    Olga,

I wouldn't presume about Russia itself, it is too big and has far too many people to make generalisations.

I have visited Moscow, during the Soviet times, and saw poetry being read in a packed football stadium.

Of late, I visited Novosibirsk on a picture assignment and I was astounded at the beauty of the women. I think you have the most beautiful women in the world.

    Hi Olga...

Well, talking about Siberia the first thing that comes to my mind it is trans Siberian. I imagine people travelling to remote places, and thinking about your lifes. And the first impression,it is that siberians(maybe russians) are introspective due to the climatic weather and the lifestyle that the weather imposes.

    That´s it.

And you, what think or imagine about my Brazil?

    Juliano.
