Picasso's birthplace

First of all, I want to thank all the people who commented in my last blog and all the readers. You make me feel even more excited!
Hello Neil and nice to meet you! Thank you for helping me to improve my English. I鈥檓 looking forward to going to Brighton. I鈥檝e seen it many times in pictures and on TV and it looks very nice. I鈥檝e heard that it鈥檚 similar to London but with sea.
I have a question for you: Where was Pablo Ruiz Picasso born? Yes, you鈥檙e right, in M谩laga! And we are very proud of him.
Picasso was born in the first floor of a building located in a well known square in M谩laga, Plaza de la Merced. Here you can see this beautiful building.
Many people thought he was Catalan, as he left M谩laga to live in Barcelona at the age of ten. You can see the influence of his birth town in some of his paintings, like 鈥淭he Yellow Picador鈥, 鈥淭he little Picador鈥, 鈥淒oves鈥 or 鈥淏ullfighting鈥, most of them related with bullfighting, as he used to go very often to 鈥淟a Malagueta鈥 bullring with his uncle and his father.

As I said, we are very proud of him and we are trying to show to the world that M谩laga is not just sun and beach, it鈥檚 also art. There鈥檚 a very interesting Picasso museum, a native home museum, a Picasso walking tour...
Another famous person from M谩laga is the actor Antonio Banderas. We are very proud of him as he is one of the Spanish actors who have success in Hollywood. He鈥檚 very proud of his birthplace too. He comes to M谩laga with his family very often and you can see him under his sunglasses and a cap. He comes every Holy Week and he takes part in the processions. He is the officer of a Catholic religious brotherhood and on Holy Thursday night he is a Man of the Throne with his peers at the Submarine of Holy Mary of Hope (Nuestra Se帽ora de la Esperanza). It鈥檚 a bit difficult to explain what it is, so you better watch this video. He鈥檚 one of those men who carry this very heavy throne:
He does a lot for his town like a charity for helping financially students from M谩laga to study abroad, he has invested in Andalusian products, he has shot some films here and he is a supporter of the football team M谩laga C.F. Have a nice day!

My childhood passed away in USSR. Pablo Picasso was one of the most popular Spanish artists in Soviet Russia even more than Francisco Goya or Salvador Dali. Soviet propaganda produced huge number of books and posters with masterpieces by Picasso. Nowadays his popularity is growing down. As for me it is quite normal by reference to art. If you see a miracle too often in everyday life it is no longer to be a miracle. Art is a miracle. You should be careful with it.
As for cinematography, my favorite Spanish film director is Alejandro Amenabar. He is really a man of outstanding personality.

Alejandro Amenabar is my favourite Spanish director too. He was born in Chile, but he has the Spanish nationality too. All of his films are really good. When I was a child I saw Open Your Eyes and I felt amazed!

I'm Brazilian and here, like Spain, the majority is catholic, in my State, we celebrate the Holy Week with great affection and processions.

I completely agree with you that A.Banderas is one the most popular actors in the world, and he is professionaly choosing his rules ,you have all the right to be proud of him because he had invaded the greatest centre of movies industry .I am from Egypt and you can't imagine how much of similarity you can found between egyptian and spanish peoples , in their ethics and manners and also the old arab culture they are sharing from old ages.I really hope i will visit Spain once aday.

Last summer in St. Petersburg there was an interesting exhibition of Picasso from the National Picasso Museum, Paris. It was in great demand.
And this year they showed us a great exhibition of old masters from Prado Museum. I was very impressed with what I鈥檝e seen.
I like Pedro Almodovar鈥檚 films. I鈥檝e never seen 鈥淥pen Your Eyes鈥 but I realized from your comment that it鈥檚 worth seeing it.

Its nice to know about Malaga from your writing. Before that i used to know a little about Spain. I follow the Spanish La liga and read few articles on Spain specially, bull fighting. As you imagine, i am from Bangladesh, a south asian developing nation, the other side in the globe compared to Spain, know a little bit about European culture indeed. The little knowledge i gained so far from watching Hollywood movies and reding newspaper.
To be honest with you , I did not know either Picasso was born in Malaga and spent 10 years of his childhood before moving to Barcelona. Its great to know that Antonio is also from Malaga and he tries to stay in touch with his root despite of his super busy and fancy hollywood life. Now i am interested to know more about the Malaga and specially the procession at which Antonio carries a heavy thorne in holy week.
