A Unique Memorial
Hi there, how have you been? I am just back from a short holiday in the States. Did I have a good time? Yes I did. I saw some friends, did a bit of shopping but for me the most important part of my trip was revisiting New York City. I wanted to see what the 9/11 Memorial looked like.
You may have been very young when the Twin Towers were attacked in 2001.
Nearly 3000 people died and two gigantic skyscrapers were brought down .

The idea is to build a memorial on Ground Zero, the former site of World Trade Centre in lower Manhattan.
The 9/11 Memorial features two enormous waterfalls and reflecting pools, each about an acre in size, set within the footprints of the Twin Towers.
The nearly 3,000 names of the men, women, and children killed in the attacks of September 11, 2001 and February 26, 1993 are inscribed in bronze on parapets surrounding the twin memorial pools.
It is supposed to be one of the most eco-friendly memorial plazas ever constructed, with more than 400 trees surrounding the whole area. The design has been made to convey a spirit of hope and renewal.
At the moment the memorial is in its last stage of construction. But in 30 days' time it's going to be opened to the public.
The construction started in 2006 and has been led by architects Michael Arad and Peter Walker, whose design was selected over 5,000 other submissions.
When it opens it is expected to become one of the most popular landmarks in New York, with up to 10,000 visitors a day.
Well, New York has lots of other interesting places that I can tell you about but perhaps I will talk about them another time.
Till next time,
Yang Li

There´s no doubt the attack on September 11, was one of the largest tragedies occurred in history of humanity. Due to this many innocent people was dead, but I really hope that things like this doesn´t happen again. Maybe the best way to homage all these people I think must be building of a Memorial to them.
Best regards

I've never been to the United States but it's one of those places I really want to go one day. And no doubt I'd like to visit New York. I believe there are a lot of interesting places to see and thanks to you we know about one more. But maybe the word "interesting" isn't the right one to describe the 9/11 Memorial because it is to remind us of the most shocking attack ever. I was just 11 when it happened and I didn't realize what a tragedy it was. It's terrible that so many people died in the attack but it's only when I think about all those people who lost their nearest and dearest ones on 11 September 2001 that I begin to understand the scale of the tragedy. We ought not to forget about it.
Thanks for your post that brought food for thought.
Best wishes,
Nastya, Russia

Firstly, all the people who lost their lives in 9/11 attacks of world trade centre rest in peace. It was a big schok for the world and the effect was devastating.
Furthermore, In my opinion, the memorial in ground zero is really a great idea by USA to remember that dark day and honour the people who lost their lives. I have seen the memorial in TV and really impressed. The memorial includes two waterfalls and two large pools which was designed by two american architect. As you mentioned in your article, it would be certainly one of the popular tourist destinations in new york.
I live in Australia that is far away from USA. Perhaps i would visit new york and 9/11 memorial in the future.
take care..
