Hi everyone,
Today I'd like to share with you a blog from Hamish, a former ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Learning English producer, who founded the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Learning English website back in 1996. This week, as we celebrate 80 years of the World Service (you can read more here), Hamish thinks about the past and wonders about the future.

Hello!
Jane, thanks for the blog and the cute photos. We'll look at your writing a bit later, but let's talk about pets first. With all the good care you are giving Midi, I'm sure she will grow big and strong in no time. I don't have a pet myself, but I do have a pest! About a week ago, as I was peacefully sitting in my living room, I saw a black shape move across the floor. I told my boyfriend: 'I think there's a mouse in here! I saw something in the corner of my eye.' He asked me if I had actually seen it. I replied 'I think I saw it.' So we lifted the sofa, but there was no mouse. After searching behind every piece of furniture in the room to no avail, my boyfriend decided I had imagined it.

Hi again everyone, and Hi to Jennifer and Rosie too.
Thank you so much for all of your encouragement messages for my last blog. And thanks Jennifer for your advice in improving my writing. Your explanation is very clear and helpful.
Today I want to tell you about the newest member of my family. Her life was very sad. Her mother died after she was born just 2 week. She has 2 brothers and they also died from a fight on the same day as their mother. She was left all alone. So my family took her in that day.

As it's the first time I'm writing the teacher blog, I'll start by introducing myself. My name's Rosie and I recently joined the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Learning English team. I've taught English in Spain, Italy and Costa Rica and really enjoy helping students to improve their English skills - so feel free to ask any questions. While teaching in these countries, I also learnt Spanish and Italian, so I know what it's like to struggle with certain aspects of a new language.

Hi everyone,
Just a quick one from me to give you the homework answers from my last blog. The task was to look at common abbreviations and acronyms that appear in English, particularly in email and text / internet language. Many of you knew a couple, but some were a little more confusing. Here are the answers!

Hello again everyone, and a very warm welcome to our new student blogger - Jane from Thailand. We'll take a look at your first two blogs later.
Here in the UK it was Valentine's Day yesterday, so many people were caught up in buying romantic cards and gifts for their loved ones. Many people are quite cynical about the day and think that all of the hype comes from greetings card companies and shops who want you to buy their products.

Time always move forward, sometimes so slow it hurt but sometimes so fast that I don't even notice. I still remember the day I started my fresh year at the university. But now 4 year has passed, and soon I will graduate from here. My friends too, soon we will go on our separate way. When I think about the thing we have done together, the moment we all had fun, the moment we all share our sadness, etc. , and to think that I have to say Goodbye to them soon, tear starting to form in my eyes.

Hi everyone. Welcome to February.
I'm Jane. Currently I'm studying computer engineering in Thailand. It's very nice to meet all of you. This is my first blog here and I know that my language is not good so forgive me if my writing confuses you. You can always ask me if you don't understand my writing. Okay?
I don't have much experience in writing even in my own language (Thai). So I'm not quite sure what people normally write about. >,
Ummm, let's talk about the reason I want to improve my English as this is my introduction chapter, isn't it. ^ ^

Hello everyone - I hope you've all had a good week.
Thanks for all of your comments on my last blog, and welcome to those of you who are participating for the first time. It's good to see so many tips about learning English! I think the general theme of people's advice is that it's good to get stuck in, even if you feel a little shy or embarrassed. It doesn't matter if you make mistakes - eventually you'll get it right, and have some great experiences along the way.

Hi everyone,
Thanks to Xiaowei for her final blog - it really made me think and brought back a lot of memories from when I lived abroad.
I was nineteen when I did my compulsory year abroad as part of my degree. Looking back, it seems like a really young age to go off into the wide world alone, but as you say, there are so many things to learn from such an experience. I lived in Paris and for a long time, I felt like a tourist: a little bit lost, a little bit conspicuous... I was convinced that folks could tell that I wasn't a proper citizen.
