In
late summer 2003 James Kennedy and Will Bonner (yes, there
is a connection - he's my brother!) decided it would be cool
to form a band. This they did, with their first drummer Matthew
McGrigor.
Later
deciding they really needed a bassist, and with several options
available, they decided to get a guitarist to do it instead,
welcoming Edwards. His equipment included a bass from under
WillÂ’s stairs and a shoelace strap!
After
a few gigs with this line up many musical differences were
found, and this meant the end of MatthewÂ’s career in
the band.
If
Only then turned to the services of Will Knowlman, who was
a formidable drummer and had two practices and a successful
gig, before deciding it wasnÂ’t for him.
With
a mad rush to find a new drummer, they decided rather than
getting a drummer, theyÂ’d just get a guitarist to fill
in playing drums, as this made sense because drummers are
too much hassle. So this meant the introduction of Chris to
take up the sticks. If Only instantly got to work writing
new material and practising for gigs in more venues around
Gloucestershire, with best and coolest line-up so far.
