Big Weekend kicks off Festival Season; we picked some survival tips from the stars
Festival season is officially here
Get your babywipes, bodyspray and wellies at the ready. We're kicking it off with Radio 1's Big Weekend in Powderham Castle, Exeter so we scoured the playlist for the best advice to keep cool and carry on partying.
1. Get a 'Team'
Going to a festival can be a bit of a stressful one. Whether you're camping or day tripping, you'll find yourself with a bunch of stuff to lug around, without enough hands and lost at least a couple of times.

For maximum fun, you need a group of mates to lend a hand. In a group you can guarantee someone will remember a spare loo roll, although they'll forget their brolly but thankfully someone else has brought sun lotion for everyone.
Being a proper team means you've got some chance of finding each other, too - agree meeting points and try not to split up too much, remember the all-important phone chargers!
Whether you're putting up a tent or fighting to the front of the crowd, it's better to have your mates around to share the memories.
2. Remember your '7' (or 8)
We all know that being out in the sun all day can be bad for you but when you're busy enjoying yourself, it's easy to forget.

Here's an idea: every time you see the aptly-named Catfish and the Bottlemen, remember to drink water.
Advice says that you should drink between 8 and 10 large glasses of water a day, especially if you're outside in the heat. If you manage to get your '7' in when you're out and about, have one at breakfast and one before bed you'll be doing fine.
Sadly caffeinated drinks and alcohol don't count and can actually make you more dehydrated, so remember to get the water in!
3. Have an 'Adventure of a Lifetime'
Most of us get a little bit intimidated in new places, especially noisy ones full of people.

Festivals are HUGE - it's easy to feel a little bit overwhelmed. There'll be more things going on at once than you can possibly see and rushing between places, queuing for the loo, finding time to eat and charging your phone make a scheduling nightmare a logistical puzzle tough enough to merit its own game show.
Adventures are often pretty well-planned; it's worth sitting down and working out what you want to do before you get there, leaving yourself enough flexibility that you won't be heartbroken if it doesn't go entirely to schedule.
4. 'Don't Be So Hard On Yourself'
Going to festivals is a lot of fun - and quite tiring!

You tend to think that you can't possibly run out of energy when you're rocking out with your mates in a field but actually standing up all day and walking around a field can really knacker you out.
Don't let FOMO stop you resting if you need to; people make some of the best discoveries at festivals when they're chilling out for a minute.
If you're tired of the main stage, why not have a look at some of the amazing new acts - like at the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio 1 Introducing stage this weekend?
5. Enjoy 'The Summer'!
The start of festival season means exams, school, university and going home from work in the dark are coming to an end for the year. It's officially nearly summer!

Summers are for making memories, seeing your favourite bands, making playlists you'll never forget and discovering new acts to be your faves next year.
Even if you can't make it to a festival, Radio 1 will be bringing you amazing new music and live coverage across the summer.
It's all kicking off with Big Weekend at Powderham Castle - we can't wait!
