Hairy Bikers Si King and Dave Myers came in to talk about Old School and volunteer themselves for a soaking
Si and Dave are currently working on a series called Old School. In the programm students from The Oxford Academy (a school in Blackbird Leys) are paired with isolated older people in a companionship and mentoring scheme.
Si described the results for the volunteers in the programme: "It was really interesting to see, because everyone invested. We were interviewing in a really crucial time in the younger members' development. And that was the brief for us, in terms of the programme and it really worked."
Dave emphasised the importance of the Academy as the base for the scheme: "The school was a great place to do it, it's the heart of a community and it's a safe space for all participants"
And Si said that the scheme created a very equal balance between teenagers and older people "What was great about the relationships that developed was that it was a very simple, level playing field."
