
The Siege of Derry
On 12th March 1689 King James landed in Ireland causing Protestants to retreat to Londonderry. We learn how the citizens of Londonderry forced Governor Lundy to flee and how King James was taken aback when the city failed to surrender to him on his arrival. Richard Doherty talks about King James' decision to lay siege to the city of Londonderry and examines some of relics of the siege held in St Columb’s Cathedral. (Broadcast: 3rd Mar 1989)
