The End of the Siege of Derry
Patrick McCrory describes how at least ten thousand inhabitants of Londonderry died in the siege of 1689, as well as many of the Irish army.
He describes the return of Kirke’s fleet to the Foyle and the successful breakthrough of the ships - the Phoenix and the Mountjoy - to provide supplies to the garrison, ending the siege after 105 days.
McCrory discusses the impact on Protestant folklore of the garrison’s successful resistance. (Broadcast: 3rd Mar 1989)
