Brain Health: ‘The biggest bang for your buck? Exercise!â€

Chartered psychologist Kimberley Wilson says regular exercise, particularly for women, is essential to protect brain health as you get older.

“People who engage in regular physical activity tend to have less severe and less chances of getting depression", she said.

Kimberley says regular exercise can also help some people control anxiety and maintain brain volume.

“Brain volume starts to shrink by half a percent per year in your later years but people who remain physically active can maintain [this] and are much more likely to maintain cognitive health", she said.
