Prostate cancer survivor on the importance of getting checked

Errol was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2010 and has since set up the Errol McKellar foundation, raising awareness of the disease.

Errol McKellar, who was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2010, tells 5 Live how important it is for men to get their prostates regularly checked.

Errol had his prostate removed in 2011 and has since been given the all clear. Now his Errol McKellar foundation helps raise awareness of regular check-ups.

It comes after King Charles announced he is to have surgery for an enlarged prostate, although not cancerous, he wants more men to come forward and get tested.

Errol told 5 Live’s Nicky Campbell how he first reacted to the news of his diagnosis.

"I walked out the room when they told me my prostate was covered in cancer.

"I remember just bursting into tears [and] cried helplessly.

"I just thought, what am I going to do now? I'm going to die and there's nothing I can do about it".

Errol, who used to be a mechanic, offered a customer a discount on his MOT if he got his prostate checked. It cost Errol £200…but revealed that his customer had prostate cancer.
