Endometriosis: ‘I was feeling like a burden, feeling like it was all in my head’

Dearbhail Ormond suffered with endometriosis for almost 20 years before getting diagnosis and has since founded a company to help other women who suffer with the condition.

Speaking to 5 Live’s Naga Munchetty, she explained what impact endometriosis had on her before getting diagnosis.

She said: “I was feeling like a burden, feeling like it was all in my head.

“I remember the isolation the most above everything else.â€

Dearbhail also said that she was affected 70% of the month up until she had a hysterectomy.

According to the charity Endometriosis UK, 62% of women aged 16-24 and 75% of men of any age – don’t know what endometriosis is.

This is part of 'That Time of the Month' where Naga Munchetty is joined by experts Dr Nighat Arif and Dr Christine Ekechi to answer your questions on a key sexual or reproductive health issue. Also, part of 5 Live's Me, My Health & I series.
