The Gönyeli Municipalty Folk Dance Group was started in 1983. The group wants to show the traditions and culture of North Cyprus. Gönyeli is a town not far from the capital of Cyprus, Nicosia. Every July, the Gönyeli International Folk Dance Festival takes place in the town. The event lasts one week, with groups of dancers from around the world performing traditional folk dances.
