The Big Party of Democracy and a Little Introduction

Post categories:

Natanael Natanael | 12:41 UK time, Wednesday, 3 November 2010

Dear Friends,

First of all, I shall to tell you that is a pleasure and a honor to write you. I confess that it's a big responsibility to do it along November. When I remember about my first time here reading the Pocahontas (Marina)'s post it was amazing and exciting.

Now, I'm here.

Also, I confess that is a big responsibility to be the successor of Miguel Aguirre (From Peru), our last blogger. Miguel, you're a good guy. Take Care !

Let me introduce myself, my name is Natanael Santos, I'm 37 years old, married with my wife Evelyn and we have a little beautiful daughter called Lidia (3,5 years old). We were born on Rio de Janeiro (City), but we are living on Rio das Ostras (State of Rio de Janeiro) far from Rio de Janeiro (down town) around 200Km or 1 hour and 50 minutes from here, due to my job.

We called this region like "Lakes Region", it's a very beautiful region of the Rio de Janeiro State, and although we have lots of things to let you know about the Brazil's aspects and curiosities. I will talk about some aspects and characteristics of my own state (Rio de Janeiro) overall, due to the world cup and Olympics games.
The oil and gas industry; the politics aspects; the nature defense; the Amazonia; the Pantanal; the violence on big cities; the friendly people and all. You will find some photos of the "Lakes Region".

Cabo_Frio.rtf

It's really beautiful place.

I'm really eager for it.

Beautiful, Isn't?

The great event on my country was the election for our new president on last days.
It's was a big party of Democracy, for the young Brazilian democracy. So, I would like to describe it a little bit more...

The Brazilian presidential election was held in 2010 with two rounds of balloting. The first round was held on October 3 along with other elections as part of the 2010 general election. As no presidential candidate polled 50 percent of the vote on October 3, a runoff was held on October 31 between Dilma Rousseff and José Serra: Rousseff won with 56% of the second round vote.

The election determined the successor to current President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva of the Workers' Party. According to our Constitution, the president is elected directly for a four-year term, with a limit of two consecutive terms. Lula was thus not eligible to stand again as he has already served two terms after winning the elections in 2002 and was re-elected in 2006. This was the first time since the inaugural presidential election after the military dictatorship that he did not run for President.

I am young yet, and I am very very happy with this process here. Each Brazilian Citizen has the responsibility to choose the person that will be the "number one" of our nation. Each person has this responsibility and has, everyone, the same size, the same weight.
There no doubts that we have problems like each nation around the world, and I really have a strong, huge, deep respect for all the process to choose the leaders and main government leaders at all. Each culture, tribe, nation has their own process, democratic or not, to have their leaders.

Each process has curiosities and native people aspects. In fact, it's a long discussion and I am afraid that this is not correct place to discuss this kind of matter. So, just to think about it...

Dear Friends, it will be an exciting and amazing adventure to know a little more about our big, colored, happy, bold, beloved mother BRAZIL. Let's together? (In Portuguese "Vamos nessa?".

If you need further information of If you have any dobts (or curiosity), feel free to ask me (^_^).

Cheers - Natanael - Rio de Janeiro - Brazil

    Wow!!! Hi Natanael!!! Just unbelievable!

It's great to have you as a next blogger here! Well, first of all I must say that I'm really big fan of Bossa Nova music espesially of Astrud and João Gilberto. If you don't mind please dedicate some of your next entries to this point :) I'd be happy to open something new in Brazilian music with your help.

Good start! Looking forward to your next post!

aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!! That's just extraordinary! i'm delighted that you will 'rule' the ѿý blog this November. hmmm...sounds fantastic!
Hello Natanael! No need to say welcome! Should we?
The photos are breathtaking, are you sure we are all on the same earth?!
P.s. Are you sure you really look like Denzel washington? Hope you remember when you said that!(*_*)
Anyway! it's great to have you there. I wonder why you feel so concerned about voting. Are you sure the fact that you choose someone to be at the head of your country really has an effect on what will happen afterwards, and what will be done. Do you really believe in this right or let's say dutie to vote? (^_^)

    Hi Marina,

Its always a pleasure to heard about you. I like you very much!

Just to let you know, I worked on Sony Music Entertainment Brasil (Its a recording company.)for 12 years. I saw lots of singers to "born" during this time. Artist like Daniela Mercury (Region Singer from Bahia (one of Brasil's state)); Skank and Cidade Negra (Group of rock and pop rock); and some of Country singers, as well.

Also, I saw consagrate singers like Roberto Carlos and a very good singer like MARINA LIMA, that i like very much.

I have a friend that works on Jobim Music Publishing company., the publishing of Tom Jobim's music, one of the most important song writers of Brazil.

I will talk about it, too. Certainly.

I'm very happy to read you Marina.

Oh my!!! WELCOME, WELCOME my dear!!!
Natanael, man! I’m so glad to see you here as the student for November you just won’t believe me! November, as a rule, is the dullest month at my place: lack of the sunshine, the nasty wet weather for the most part, cold winds and such. As a consequence I’m sleepy all the time and feel blue (the syndrome of so called autumn depression). But the minute I saw that you are going to be with us during this month I realised that things are going to be much better now. Your appearance here uplifted my spirits markedly. I hope that being as friendly and optimistic as you are you will be like a sunbeam for me. Good start! Good luck with writing and everything else.

Best regards, please say hello to your wife and kiss your little daughter.
    Svetlana, Russia

    Hi Dommi,

You are always happy and fantastic. I like you (^_^).

Yes, we livid on the same earth, my dear. The same earth. It's amazing... It's our responsibility.

Denzel (^_^) of course not... but some people talked to me that it seems. I prefer to seem by myself, its enough. (^_^). Do you remember of MATRIX (the movie). There was a actor caller Morpheus (Fishbourne or something like that). The people kiding with me. It's fun. (^_^)

Dear friend Dommi, I know that there are lots of regime of goverment and i really respect each of them, but, yes I believe that if you have a chance to choose the leader, you have a direct responsibility about your own choose, and you can charge it to your leader. If there is no responsibility on this leader you can change him or her, on the next election.

In fact, the main thing is the power of choose what you want to your country from the proposals of each candidate. The winner is chosen with 50% plus 1 vote. Directly... I don't know if the best way, but the most interesting thing is the power of each Brazilian, do you remember. The same size, the same weight. My vote is the same of my own actual president or other person. I'm not concerned about voting, i'm just try to clarify our politics process.

If you have others curiosities about this matter, please let me know. It will be a pleasure to clarify it.

Cheers - Natanael - Rio de Janeiro - Brazil

    Dear Sventla,

Your words are always warm words.
    Many thanks for it.
Well, here is almost summer and it's very hot. We have "blue" too, but blue sky. We have a kind of special time called Summer time. The day longer than the oficial time. Just a type of economy of eletric energy. We use the "sunshine" more than on other places (^_^). It's very good. I'm about to finish my job, and i can go to beach if i want. I prefer to run to my house and after that to get my daughter on school.
Today, my footbal team has a important game and i'll show it by tv.

It's a pleasure to heard about you... let's together ?. Up, always. Big kiss for you and your family.

See you. Natanael from Rio de Janeiro - Brazil.

By the way. Our Women Volleybol team won the Italy volleybol team on World Champioship (On Japan). Did you see? Great, yes!

    Oi Natanael!

It´s a pleasuere to have you as a blogger here! :) I like your blog and the information about Brasil. I am going to Brasil in August 2011 for a month and I have started to learn Portuguese. I have also been learning English for more than 3 years, which is my passion in the last time.
A short note to the presidential event: it is a very interesting moment for the Brasilian nation to have a femal president and a democrat! It is a new chance to rethinking in few areas. I have observe this country a little more carfully and in all cases i like this country very much. Maybe I will move to them.
Natanael, I have recently met Marina Lima´s music. It was a suggestion to listening from my friend. She is great!
Could you write more about the current issues in the music scene in Brasil, please?

Friendly e tudo de bom, Edyta

    Hi Nataa!
I wonder, is Nataa a substitute for Natasha? Welcome to ѿý LE! Yes i'm from Russia, i live in Ivanovo, and where are you from?

@Dommi, where have you been for so long? I've been missing you! How are things going?

@Natanael! your words about going to the beach made me green with envy! Just kidding, i consider envy a really bad trait in people. But honestly, i'd love to be someplace on your amazing pictures right now:)

@Nastya from Russia, where are you? are you still with us?

    Hey Natanael!!!!!!!!!!!! :-)

I just can't find the right words to say how delighted I am to learn that you are the student blogger for this month (^_*)!!!!!!!! This news has cheered me up and I can hardly help clapping my hands like a happy little girl ;-) Yeah, Svetlana is one hundred per cent right about the nasty weather in Russia and the autumn depression but right now I'm in raptures :) I believe we all have a wonderful month in your company ahead of us, I'm dying to read your next posts and learn more about Brasil. And I promise to be a good girl (^_*) and visit your blog at least once a day (and of course leave comments :)).

    Good luck with your blog,

Of course I'm with you. Sorry I was absent for so long but after all the homework (and translations and compositions) they gave us at university I couldn't bring myself even to switch on the computer in the evening. This October was really crazy and I hope now that I passed two exams I'll have more time to communicate with all the ѿý LE family :-)

Yeah, that's really funny (^_*). Thanks for your kind words, Svetlana :)

  • Comment number 15.

Yeah well, i think i got the point now. You're right! Same size, same weight. I do like the way you consider each person's vote as a unique act that will determine the future; in this case who the next president will be. I'm not sure if i feel the same about vote in my country..What they are doing up there (politicians) is so fuzzy that we'd better not say anything...shhhhhttt i'm bringing out some very tough polemical subject..i'd better dash off ('.')(^_*)! Thanks!

Hi, Natanael! What a surprise! I´m as the rest of the group delighted with you as the November´s blogger. I´m your neighbour from Argentina and I consider Brazil one of the most attractive places in the world. I haven´t visited your homeland but my five children are fans of your beaches, culture, music, etc., except football of course. I´m also very happy with the result of the presidential election. I deeply admire Lula da Silva and I´m confident with Dilma Roussef. I like the idea of two female presidents in our countries. I think they are very intelligent, honest, sensible, sensitive and hard workers. I defend my "gender". I don´t know if the word is correct. The best and looking forward to your post. Beatriz.

    Hi Edyta,

First of all, please put me out of my misery. Where are you from?
Do you know Marina Lima music? Yes, she is great. There is no news about her music now a days, but she's really great singer. I'll talk about Brazilian Music during November'10.
I'm flatered about your words (about Brazil) and yes, it's a good opportunity to think about something, like Chile (Michelle Bachelet); Argentina (Cristina Kirchner) and Angela Merkel (Germany). Now we have Dilma Rouseff. The woman has more sense and sensibility certanly will be a good president.
August is an excelent month (it's my birhday) (^_^). You are welcome here, always.
The portuguese language is one of the most dificult language of the world. For us is dificult, but it's beatiful language. I hope that you learn Portuguese too.

    Please keep in touch.

    Hi Natanael,
So good to see you and get some summer feeling here in autumn-depression-ridden central Europe. Well, it's not as bad as that; autumn-coloured woods and gardens are beautiful too, but on foggy, unfriendly days looking at your photos of places near where you live seems like getting a glimpse of paradise. (Coming back to one of Dommi's topics - hi, Dommi!)
I was very pleased about the news of the elections in Brazil. I absolutely agree, the right and responsibility of a people to choose their leaders is immensely important and must be cherished and respected. I do have my problems when the process becomes dominated by big-business lobbies though, spending lots and lots of money on election campaigns, putting pressure on politicians and influencing public opinion in ways far beyond fairness and reason. Well, I'm not an expert but I see some of this happening in the USA and I don't like it at all.
But this month we are going to look at Brazil! I am looking forward to that and wish you all the best and lots of energy for your blogging adventure!
    See you around,
    Elisabeth (Austria)

I would like to know about Brazil music too and about your carnivals. I hope you will tell about your carnivals.
About your political event. I don't follow the politics and I don't know your parties, but I am sure the result of elections is step to democracy. I'm happy for Brazilian people for they possibility to do real elections.

    See you soon,

That's right. Your words about elections and your thinking about it, is correct. I agree with your point of view. In fact, we need to been growing up, to learn day by day on direction of a better world for all of us. In fact, dear friend, if we think on the future, the future of our friends, our children, our earth (planet), and our own future, we really need to do the right thing. And the right thing, in my opinion, is thinking about the group.

Have a wonderful day. Take care !

On this time, is a time o choose of Samba for next February. It's big, big, big party here.

    Hello Natanael and everybody here!

How wonderful to communicate with you and read all your posts. I can see you are a very popular man Natanael. I think Natanael's November will be a wonderful month.

Well it's been a very eventful week on the election front for the Americas! How are people feeling after the election Natanael? And perhaps people if any of you are in the United States you can tell us how you feel after the US elections too?

I want to know how you would like to 'use' me Natanael. Do you want me to look out for anything in particular in your posts? Is there any aspect of your English you would like me to pay attention to? Already I can see you have reached a very good level in your written English. The only things I would pick out is to watch out for some prepositions. 'I was born in Rio...' rather than 'I was born on Rio'. You use 'on' for the date. So 'I was born in Rio on the 5th of November' - but then it gets a bit confusing. If you are only telling me the month, then it's back to 'in'. 'I was born in Rio in November'. Oh - English prepositions - so horrible sometimes!

Anyway this is just a quick hello for now. I love your photos. Can we all come for a virtual visit to your beautiful Cape in spring? Here it is autumn and the nights are setting in (in other words it's getting darker in the evenings). But looking on the bright side (another useful phrase meaning 'I'm trying to find something positive in the situation) only another 4 or 5 weeks before it starts getting lighter in the evening again!

    Bye for now

    Alice

Am I right, what do you think?

    Hello Natanel
Cabo frio seems to be a really really nice place to visit.
I've been in Brasil in 2000. It was such a beautiful and interesting trip. I keep having lovely memories about the country as well as the pepole. The colours and the smells are still in my mind.

I've just wanted to mention my travel to Brasil because I got an illumination rightin Rio de Janeiro during those days and to cut a long story short I gave up smoking. It is amazing, isn't ? I've not been smoking since then.

I'm going to take advantage of your knowledge and please, could you let me know where brasilian national flag originates from ?
Look forward to reading your next post

  • Comment number 44.

    Hello Marcello,

It's a honor to talk about our flag. It's beautiful history...but first of all, can not to loose the opportunity to talk a little words about your very good and important decision to let up (to stop)smoking. You're winner believe that !

Well, in fact I could to write a post about our flag, I'll think about it at all.

Well,The Brazilian flag was a project Teixeira Mendes, with the collaboration of Miguel Lemos. Professor Manuel Perez was responsible for organizing the stars, and the design was executed by Decius Villares. The project was approved on November 19, 1889, through Decree No. 4.

The new flag has kept the traditional colors of green and yellow, since they "remember the struggles and the glorious victories of the army and navy to defend the ѿýland," and that "whatever form of government, symbolizing the perpetuity and integrity of the Nation among other nations. "

The first yellow appeared on the flag of the Principality of Brazil (1645), colored an armillary sphere, which was one of the tools used in learning the art of navigation, then recalling the discovery of Brazil.

Green appeared much later (May 13, 1816) in the Flag of the Kingdom of Brazil, enacted by D. Peter I. The flag was designed by Jean-Baptiste Debret member of the French Artistic Mission contracted years earlier by D. John IV to paint "the natural beauties of Brazil and the humanities." D. Peter asserted that the green and yellow represent "the richness of Brazil and eternal spring."

The armillary sphere is again remembered through the azure sphere, which represents the idealized sky. The white band that crosses the sphere gives the same sense of perspective. This is the idealization of the line of the zodiac.

The legend written in green, "Order and Progress", is a summary of the motto of Auguste Comte, founder of positivism, which Teixeira Mendes was adept. The complete slogan was "love as a principle and order as a basis, progress at last." According to Teixeira Mendes himself, the purpose of the motto was to show that the revolution "simply did not abolish the monarchy," but she hoped "to found a nation of true brothers, giving the Order and Progress all the guarantees that history illustrates that necessary for their permanent harmony. "

The stars, part of the "idealized sky" have a history that began well with the Flag of the Kingdom of D. Pedro I, to honor the 19 provinces of that time. When the Republican flag was created, the stars represented the twenty states of the Republic and the City Neutral. Today there are 26 states and the Federal District.

The arrangement of the stars should be the same as that seen in the sky of Rio de Janeiro in the early hours of the morning of November 15, 1889, so the presence of Cruzeiro do Sul, however, worth noting the presence of the cross on the flag to arrive in Brazil: Flag of the Military Order of Christ, symbol of military and religious order restricted to nobles, who financed several expeditions Portuguese sea. This order had a red and white cross on a white background and was in the sails of the 12 boats that arrived on Brazilian soil on April 22, 1500.

    Sorry, ufa! THE END.(^_^).

    Hello Natanael,

it's great to have another brazilian blogger. We've had some amazing bloggers from Brazil in the past, and I can see you're not going to be any different. It's amazing how we can learn things about our own country.

    Be welcome.

You said you worked at Sony music for ten years. Are you still in the music business or have you changed your working area because you said you live in São Pedro because of your job so I got curious...

I'm from the state of Rio de Janeiro too, but from the inner part of it.

Well it's great to know you and to read your posts....

    See you around...

    Mauricio.

Hi Natanael! I'm very happy with a brazilian blogger here! About the election, I think it is a victory for the brazilian people. I'd like to highlight the success of eletronic voting. In Brazil, we have the result in the same day of election, with agility and security. Congratulations brazilian friends!

    Hi Mirella,

It's real. We have a method very interesting to make the election. I worked on the test and approving about this machine on the past, when i was a IT student (High School). I remember when i had to account each vote manually. It was terrible, but now it's very, very easy and we have a big security about this process.

    Hi Mustapha,

It's a pleasure to have you here.

Yes, We have a beautiful country, happy, coloured and more...
You're right... we have a very footbal, beautiful girls, and wonderful seas, and the carnival as well. But i have to confess that sometimes to be known just about it, is not so good.

We have a very worker people. Serious people and of course, we have lots of problems too.

We have nature beautiful and a very strong industry. Our economy is a 8th of the world and we are growing up with a very good speed.

I hope that you have a chance to visit our country (if you didn't do it yet).

Please keep in touch. You're welcome.

Cheers - Natanael - Rio de Janeiro - Brazil

The more deeply I stare at pictures, the more deeply I am carried away.

In response to message no. 42.

Is the letter 't' pronounced in the 'English' pronunciation of Svetlana? Well - I think it should be, but many people do swallow the 't' sound in English - so it would sound something like 'Sveh-lana'

Hi Nataneal! i read your description and it was really intresting, whenever i hear that part of humanity in the world have freedom to choose their leaders i really feel happy, it is right that democracy give this chance to people to choose their leaders and hold them accountable for their conducts in office, but believe me that in some part of the world like my country government misuse under the name of democracy the do every thing only for their intrest not public intrest.i wish the model of democracy in other parts of the world to be implemented in our country.

    best wishes
