"Whitelocks
is tucked away right in the heart of the commercial bustle and it
is well worth a visit to the ancient pub.
"Essentially
a late Victorian/Edwardian gem just marvel at the etched glass and
brass fittings.
"But
take a minute to look at the yard that the pub is in and inspect
a the row of former working men's cottages alongside.
"Although
now they are a part of the pub, the cottages show how the working
class population were living in the yards right off Briggate.

"Just
a stone's throw away was the wealthy merchant in Queens Court but
space in Leeds was hugely pressured and so everything available
was used.
"The
eighteenth century saw people crammed in to heavy densities.
Again
life in Leeds is going round in circles, with the recent increase
in the number of people living in the centre.
"It
may lead to an increase in availability of everyday staples like
milk and bread for those living in the centre."
