"Whitelocks is tucked away right in the heart of the commercial bustle and it is well worth a visit to the ancient pub.

"Essentially a late Victorian/Edwardian gem just marvel at the etched glass and brass fittings.

"But take a minute to look at the yard that the pub is in and inspect a the row of former working men's cottages alongside.

"Although now they are a part of the pub, the cottages show how the working class population were living in the yards right off Briggate.

"Just a stone's throw away was the wealthy merchant in Queens Court but space in Leeds was hugely pressured and so everything available was used.

"The eighteenth century saw people crammed in to heavy densities.

Again life in Leeds is going round in circles, with the recent increase in the number of people living in the centre.

"It may lead to an increase in availability of everyday staples like milk and bread for those living in the centre."
