Butterfly salt lick
A misty covered river in Ussuriland is the scene of a butterfly gathering at a riverside salt lick. Amongst the butterflies is the Maack's swallowtail - the Soviet Union's biggest butterfly. They feed here on the essential nutrients they need for the coming weeks. Other species visiting the salt lick are white butterflies, emperor and admiral butterflies. Swallowtails can live for up to a month if they are lucky, but predators such as the orb spiders will catch them if they are not careful.
