You are utterly right: it's really a good site which helps you to practice all your skills about English, except the spoken English. Me too I find it very difficult, living here in Rome, to find someone to speak with, but I'm trying my best to practice this as much as I can. Beautiful photos! Beautiful country! Being Austrian myself, I have travelled to various parts of Italy of course, but for some reason I have never been to Lago Maggiore. Seems I have really missed something there!

You touched on an interesting point in your post: It is extremely helpful to get advice by an experienced teacher, of course, and it is very nice and can be helpful to get into contact with people who are interested in learning English as a foreign language, but sometimes it would be great to have more opportunities of direct contact with English native speakers (not necessarily teachers, who are generally snowed under with work, I suppose). Wishful thinking, I know...
After all, there are probably disproportionately more English learners around than Britain has native speakers...

Anyway, I wish you a fruitful month of studying with the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ and many fellow-commenters from all over the world!

What an admirable place you are living! Peaceful, picturesque landscapes delight eyes. Amazing photos. I want to be here right now. There is slush in the Central Russia.

About your troubles. You are so upset about learning Italian in the UK :) I can say you, may be it make you feel better, there are less naive English in the web who want to study Russian :) . I’m working for big transnational company. We have a lot of foreigners in our Russian head office from different countries. As a matter of fact large majority of them don’t speak Russian. Its Russian vocabulary consist limited amount of words. There are only most useful wards in the list as 'zdravstvuitie!' ('hello!' 'buon giorno!'), 'spasibo' ('thank you', 'grazie') and 'bardak' ('mess', 'madhouse', 'disordine' etc.) :) It is quite sufficient. The first two wards are important to be pleasant and obliging man, the third one is describing Russian reality in all aspects of business and everyday life. Mess ('bardak') isn’t just mess in its narrow sense, for Russians it is a special order ;)

Working in a company with multilingual, multicultural staff we use some sort of corrupted English language which is mixture of number of accents. The main rule is 'BE UNDERSTANDABLE'. I believe after a while people will choose such corrupted, irregular English for studding as now they choose American or British. And it will have particular grammar and pronounciation rules. Globalism looks for its own language. The point is that it couldn’t be any national language.

Well, take it easy, forgot the grammar and lust socialize. :)

I just stumbled upon this blog and am glad ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ allow people like us to practice writing in english. I am very very afraid to write in english even in a single sentence would take me a few minutes to read it over and over again just because I'm afraid of making mistakes. When Alfonso and Seymour wrote 'just to learn and the only way for it is making mistakes' and 'don't worry about mistakes' these words motivate me to comment here. By the way I love your beautiful pictures, such a wonderful place. Hope to get there one day. :)

I love Italy and Mediterranian area! I'm from Hungary. But I never find my place in my home country. Some years ago I got a chance to visit Italy. And it was a very strange experience. I feel myself at home in your country. I just looked out of the window of the hotel and I was happy:-) I can't tell this strange feeling ... I visited Padova, Verona, Velence. I bathed in the sea. These days were one of the nicest period of my life! At that time I tried to learn Italian language. But it was difficult for me over 30. Italian language is beautiful, but English is easier I think.
Thank you for your post and nice photos. I was also in Triest in 2007. It was also a wonderful city. I hope so I will be able to travel back to Italy in the future.

It’s a pleasure to read your blog and look at the pictures. The photos you sent are lovely. I’ve never been to Italy but hope for travelling there one day. I admire Italian opera and painting. Though I can’t speak Italian I know many words. When I was a child there were a lot of Italian singers enormously popular in the USSR: Toto Cutugno, Al Bano & Romina Power, Ricchi e Poveri etc. I knew by heart their songs. Even now when I hear this music I sing along with them. And of course I have to mention lovable Andriano Celentano! I love his films and songs.

I can say the curiosity of other sides of world,of people, of the way of their life makes me to have interest in learing English.

I am always thinking that learning languages is not easy job at all...The more I learnt, the more it became difficult....as my goal for this is getting higher.

Well....I've read all others comments here as well as I have yours...they all seem from different countries, but we can understand each other and show our thoughts here. Isn't it nice, is it? Of course we makes many mistakes...and I am sure we will have many more...And yet, we can learn and develop through our mistakes.

You are living in a such amazing place, fascinating and gorgeous. In the world to learn English It's an actual theme and everybody finds Its own way to learn this language, to be perfect in it. Problem is to speak, you can learn English and exercise It everyday and be successful, but without speak It's nothing. I noticed that in writing am well, but in speaking not so much. However the beauty of English force and boost in me the huge interest to do more.
I find ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ learning English very helpful, because It gives opportunity to full the gaps in your knowledge of English.
Ok and again about ....I consider to live in such calm place, countryside as best option for me,but sometimes I think may be one day I will get bored with this calmness. What do you think about this Vito?

I'm glad you like my country and in particular my countryside. A lot of turist come here because in the middle of this lake there are three wonderful little islands very suggestive.
You are absolutely right about the English language. It's really important for everyone to learn it but this will be another topic that I'd like to speak about next week.
About your last question, you know I think to be in your same situation; to leave in a peaceful countryside could be fine but maybe someone else could prefere to leave in a town, in the city centre...... so we are all different. I'd prefere to continue leaving in here for all my life.
