CarGo seat

Gary was born in Glasgow and went to school in Motherwell & Wishaw.

He became a Lifeguard at Motherwell Aquatec in 1989 and has been in the Public Sector ever since. He is now a Recreation Manager in charge of Hamilton Water Palace. He was very arty and likes to paint and sketch and make things. This has pushed him towards Product Design but he has no formal qualifications in that field.

The CarGo seat light bulb moment came about when Gary was on holiday and hired two booster seats for his kids. They were covered in sticky sweets and broken and costing 70 euros and he thought "I can do this better".

He came home and sketched his idea, and then with a design team created a CAD (computer aided design) and the video work seen on the show.

He received a few closed doors and broken promises before Entrepreneurial Spark in Glasgow helped him enormously.

His key focus now is to get CarGo seat to market and put in the work required. Some of his designs have been recognised by Glasgow’s Got Business talent, Intuit100up, New Start Scotland Bright Ideas and Entrepreneurial Spark (Best Creative Innovation winner 2012).
