Alex Kingston, best known for her roles as Dr. Elizabeth Corday in ER and the mysterious River Song in Doctor Who, is stepping onto the Strictly dancefloor this season. Born in Wimbledon in 1963, Alex trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and honed her craft at the Royal Shakespeare Company, building a remarkable career across stage, screen, and television.

She made her TV debut at just 17 in Grange Hill and went on to star in acclaimed productions including Moll Flanders and ITV crime drama The Knock. Her role as Dr. Elizabeth Corday on ER earned her international recognition, seven seasons of complex storylines, and two Screen Actors Guild Awards alongside stars like George Clooney.

Alex later became a fan-favourite as River Song, appearing across multiple Doctor Who storylines and delighting audiences with her wit, charm, and unforgettable catchphrases.

In recent years, Alex has continued to captivate audiences with roles in Arrow, Discovery of Witches, Treason, and ITV’s Douglas is Cancelled, while returning to the stage for Shakespearean classics like Macbeth and The Tempest. Her versatility and dedication have made her one of the most respected and beloved actors of her generation.

Off-screen, Alex enjoys quirky hobbies including bell-ringing, gardening, and making pasta from scratch. A passionate Doctor Who fan herself, she regularly attends conventions to connect with fans.
