Hi Diarmuid!

Nice to meet you too! It's always interesting to work with different teachers; you're used to none of them! I mean, their style.

Well, I'll try to manage the homework, which seams to me quite difficult, but exciting!

Hi dear friends!

In my last article I told you about my family hobbies. But I wrote nothing about the hobby of my husband. That's why today I'd want to draw special attention to it.

Yesterday, on June 27, was International day of fishing. Congratulations to all members of the club! And especially, to my husband!

Hi everyone,

In one of the magazines my Mum reads, there is a guest columnist each week. At the end of the column, each guest makes a short series of statements - along the lines of: This week I've read..... This week I've been to..... So, I thought it might be fun to do the same - and to ask you to tell everyone what you've been up to! Here's my week:

24th of June

Post categories:

Jan Jan | 17:12 UK time, Thursday, 24 June 2010

On June 24 Christian and Catholic Churches feast the birthday of Saint John the Baptist. Also today is a summer solstice. The sun has a magical reviving power. They say, it rises earlier, stays in the sky longer and as from that day begins to die. That's way in many countries people celebrate this day as an ancient pagan holiday. In Russia we call it «Kupala day», in honor of ancient pagan god of midsummer. And in Bulgaria the name of this day is «Enyovden». It bears the name of Enyov, which means Ivan or John. As you know, Bulgaria and Russia are both Slavic countries, that's why we have quite similar traditions, connected with this day.

"French crisis" from André, France

andre.jpgHello, I'm French and very disappointed by the Football french team behaviour! Their behavior is ridiculous and it's a shame for all French people!

It's not a team but only an addition of individualities and there is no manager!

The World Cup is not a national championship but the most important football tournament and each national team must show the best "image" of the country which he represents.

Hi Nuala!

As Britney Spears sings, you did it again! You're right about Possessive case in Russian. We haven't got it in this form (s and apostrophe). But there is Genitive case in Russian, which corresponds with Possessive case in English. And we use an adjective before noun. Unfortunately, they seldom coincide.

The perfect job

This is a reply to this blog from Jan

Hi Jan,

Your job as an events organiser sounds fascinating. You must get to meet lots of interesting people and work in lots of amazing venues. I find it complicated enough just having a few friends round to dinner, so I can't imagine being able to do a job like yours because it sounds like a logistical nightmare to me. But that is the great thing about work - everyone has different skills and aspirations - and for every one of us there's the perfect job if we're lucky enough to find it.

Hi Nuala!

First of all thank you for the vocabulary! It's really important to know how English speakers say something rather than to translate phrases form Russian into English.

Honestly, I haven't read these books, you mentioned. But I've seen this film «The Road». It's quite frightening and cruel to my mind, but if we'd abstract away from the fact of eating people, the history of the main characters, the father and the boy, is very touching! And it was interesting to watch, how it could be, if there is no civilization on the Earth.

Hi Jan,
It's always exciting to find out what other people's favourite books are and to see if you have any titles in common with them.

It's also interesting to learn about books you might never pick up in a bookshop until you hear they're someone you know's favourites. I fall into the latter camp with you because I haven't read any of the books you mentioned. Indeed, apart from The Forsyte Saga and How to Stop Worrying and Start Living', I hadn't even heard of your top books before. And here's me thinking I read quite a lot!

It must be admitted, he is a genius of the great events! As usual, I came earlier to the hotel, where presentation should be held, to help him with decorations. We'd begun preparation, when suddenly I heard magnificent sounds of the music. Next moment I was frozen on the spot!

Hi Nuala,

Answering your question about the trams on Vitosha Boulevard, Sofia still has such a romantic transport. I like riding on it on Saturday or Sunday nights, when the city is brightly lit. And during a day it's the only way to cope with traffic jams and to be on time wherever you need. In Moscow we also have trams. But they don't help in this aspect, Moscow Metro takes this function on itself.

I'd say, you catch me! Every day I wake up and go to the window. I can't believe, I live in the city with such an amazing view! There are no hills or mountains in my native city, that's why I admire Vitosha Mountain. And the Campsies are magnificent! Do you miss the view, living in London? Have you ever been on the top of them?

After lyrical digression, it's time to study!

Hi everybody! On June 12 Russia day is celebrated. It's the annual national holiday of the Russian Federation since 1992. It must be admitted that the attitude to this holiday in Russia is rather ambiguous. Many people consider this day as a tragic date, when the process of disintegration of the USSR starts. However the fact is that after this day Russia has got its present look with its national flag, anthem and emblem of the Russian Federation. That's why today I dedicate my blog to Russia or, to be more exact, cruise.

The city, where I live

Post categories:

Jan Jan | 11:29 UK time, Wednesday, 9 June 2010

HI, everybody! Today I invite you to take a walk around the city, where I live now. Sofia is the capital and the largest city of Bulgaria. Its population is about 2 million people. It is located at the foot of extinct volcano Vitosha. Here were founded the structures, dated the 4th century BC. The present motto of Sofia is «Ever growing, never old! »

Yesterday I decided to pretend a tourist! I took my photo camera and went sightseeing. I'd say it was quite unusual pastime, taking into account, that I've viewed local attractions several times. Unexpectedly, I liked it very much! Now you have an opportunity to get an idea of Sofia without leaving your place. Take a comfortable position and enjoy!

Thanks for the diverting article, you've mentioned in you last blog. I prefer to bike around Sofia as well. It's an advantage of small cities as opposed to big cities with heavy traffic like Moscow.

You were right about the meaning of the phrases I'd used in my previous article. Thank you for the correction! And I must confess this homework was quite difficult for me! You chose the examples, in which I hadn't been sure! Anyway, this is it!
